Better Get Some Vitamin C Before I Go Viral

I think I'd better get my Winter supply of Vitamin C in before I go viral and get a cold or flu. Last year I had a few doozies and I don't want them back. Vitamin C and Oregano Oil drops really do help and I'm out of both of these natural immune boosters so will get some this week. It won't be long before signs urging you to get your flu shot start appearing in drugstores etc. I haven't got it yet but may just get one this year. I was always worried about feeling sick from the flu shot as some people do. Let's see what happens- but with all the mega storms etc. I wonder if flu and cold season will be blowing in with a vengeance as well. It wouldn't surprise me that's for sure. Are you prepared for cold and flu season or are you lucky enough not to be affected by those Category 4 germs? Pixabay Free Image

I usually don't get affected by them. With my allergy to chicken I can't have the flu shot. I hope you get stocked up so you don't get the flu or colds this year.

@MarymargII Not that I know of. If anybody is allergic to chicken, as I am, I'm certain they do.

@just4him Do you ever get a reaction from the flu shot?

I had no idea chicken had anything to do with it- hope others know that. Is there any other safeguard we should know about with the flu shot?

I have been sick only one time since I got married. We eat oranges and grapefruits, we do not need Vitamin C supplements. I never had a flu shot and I do not believe I will start this year.

@MarymargII We both love the pink Florida grapefruits, they are so sweet. Anyway the oranges and grapefruits are not the vegetables with more vitamin C, the best sources are the Bell Peppers, the Chili Peppers, Broccoli, Papaya, Strawberries, pineapples, mangoes and kiwis. We both like the bell peppers, the strawberries and the pineapples.

Good to eat all that Vitamin C in fruit- I do find that if I start with a cold or scratchy throat- taking a few Vita C supplements and then following up the next day will stop it in its tracks. I also eat oranges but can't have grapefruits with my medication unfortunately as I love it!

I think the Vitamin C really helps in many things since it`s also an antibacterial. Wish you good health!

And ifI take it right when I feel a sore throat and take 1,000mg once an hour for about 3 hours and do the same the next day of two- my cold will not arrive!

@m_audrey6788 yes, they help so much but with the Vitamin C I can take quite a bit and it works better. Those juices are terrific for everyday to keep the cold away too!

Vitamin C and multivitamins are the only capsule or tablet I take, I never or seldom take any meds or pain killers so there is always ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate in the house.

I find the Vitamin C really helps if you take up to three- spaced out of course and do the same each day!

@MarymargII None, except some tenderness around the injection site, but it was gone the following day. That sure beats having the flu!

I like that, lol, category 4 germs.I'm usually not affected by the flu. I got a flu shot a few years ago since I visit my mom and didn't want to accidentally pass those germs on to her, but I've not gotten it for the last year or so and may not again this year. Getting the shot never made me sick at all, so you may be fine too. I did get the shingles vaccine and am glad I did because you keep hearing more and more about older people getting that and it's not pretty or fun. I had no ill effects from that one either, although if I remember right you need two doses to get the full, lifetime effect. I did realize recently that I have a new bottle of Vitamin C on my pantry shelves. I need to begin taking it regularly too. I get more allergies than colds lately, but sometimes it's hard to tell what I really have until it's too late to do much about it to stave it off. Do you ingest the oregano oil, or rub it on your feet? My sister's ex rubs it on the soles of his feet and hasn't been sick since he began doing so. You'd need a carrier oil to use with it in that manner as it's harsh on the tender areas.

@MarymargII I was beginning to wonder whether you'd ever see this comment or the others left here. I've not used oregano oil yet and not sure that I will. Do u use one of the better, more expensive brands when ingesting them? My sister make me up the migraine concoction which I use on my thumb joints and she doesn't charge me for them.

I do ingest the Oregano Oil - but just a few drops at the back of my mouth and followed by some ice cold orange juice as it is strong but the taste really only lasts a few minutes--ha! promise! No- you could mix it with a carrier oil but not for oral consumption as the stronger the better on those sore throat or virus germs. You could mix it and massage it into a sore spot as it is also good on muscle pain. And on your lungs would help with congestion.

@Marymargll - I always get a flu shot and I take Vitamin C (as well as other vitamins) every day. It is rare for me to get sick. (Knock on Wood ... I don't want to bring myself bad luck!)

@MarymargII - I just got the flu shot a week ago. I believe that inoculations are worth it. They don't prevent everything, but at least they give us some protection.

I do believe in the vitamin c power...Try to get it from natural foodstuff though. Take calcium supplements. What does oregano do?It's not a native herb and we get the dried ones to top up Italian dishes
