I woke up with a plan (for a change)

I think I wrote a while back about Anne sometimes asking what my "plan" for the day might be. I rarely have one since I retired unless we are going somewhere. When I took her coffee in to the bedroom, I told her I actually had a plan, but not to get used to the idea. My plan was to mow the lawn before the predicted rain began. I "shoulda" done it yesterday when it was sunny and 85 degrees.. So, I was up early, waiting until after 8 AM so as not to disturb the neighbors, ate breakfast, then donned my yard clothes and went out just as the rain began. As I started to get the mower out of the garage, I recalled that mental note I made a week ago to buy some gasoline for it. Oops! Yet, I did not abandon my plan. I went and got some fuel, moved some stuff in the yard (plants and flowers on a wrought iron table and chairs) and mowed while a light drizzle fell. It really only took about 40 minutes to finish, but I was glad for a hot shower after that. I had been tempted to abandon my plan, but after announcing that I actually had one, thought I 'd better follow through.

People say that you should be quiet about your goals and let your results do the talking. I believe otherwise. I tell others about my plan so in a way, I am sort of accountable in getting it done.

Most of my plans now that I´m retired have to do with what to cook for lunch (my biggest meal of the day). Now that spring has started, my plans include gardening too.

Good going! It looks like it could rain here right now. I should get out and mow tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I can't get the mower going without help plus I don't want to be by myself in case a rock etc. hits me so I mostly wait for the weekend. Its almost that time of the year when I just have to quit mowing no matter what got done or not.

@JamesHxstatic Wow. I'm thinking this is my final weekend for mowing. Got to pick tomatoes before the end of the week even though they are green. Night frosts are moving in.

Good for you! At least it wasn't storming! You get a lot of rain in Oregon, don't you? That's why its so beautiful there, I think. Unfortunately, Oregon is one of the 5 states that I have not visited and at this point in my life, I probably never will. We NEED some rain here in Virginia.

@JamesHxstatic Forest fires are so devastating. Were there any near where you live? I've been hearing about them on the news, of course. Yes, Virginia is a beautiful state, but every state has its own beauty. I just like the color GREEN.

@IreneVincent We do have a lot of green once the dryness of summer leaves us.

We finally started getting some last week to help put out the numerous huge forest fires that had burned (some still are) for weeks. I have never been to Virginia either, but hear it is beautiful as well.

I used to have a Toro that looked just like that. Wonder if it's the same model.

I have to mow the lawn and I noticed that I have not enough gasoline left. Tomorrow is Sunday and I cannot make noise, the lawn will wait until Monday.

I have a battery powered mower. I got tired of having to make sure I had gas for the mower (not to mention changing the oil and tuning it up). On top of that, it is quiet enough I can mow the lawn before 8 a.m. without bothering anyone. Then when I'm done mowing I charge the battery right away so I don't have to worry about it the next time I want to mow the lawn.

Good for you for having a plan and following through with it even though you had many reasons to walk away from it.

This was an unlikely circumstance, spurred by the rain.

If you hadn't announced it - you might have put it off for another day. Best to have it over and done with.

My pedometer told me I walked a bit over a mile doing that. I usually walk 2.5 to 3 miles each morning.
