Looking after your teeth

I'll be the first to admit I am scared of the dentist but I make myself go because the fear of pain and decay is greater for me. Not everyone feels this way though. I have a friend who removed his own tooth after taking painkillers and drinking vodka because he would rather inflict pain on himself than have someone else do it. I know the dentist can be costly and no one likes having teeth removed but seriously, could you do this to yourself? I would save up the money and have it done under anesthetic rather than do this to myself.

@silvermist that's how I feel but some people are terrified of them and they do cost quite a lot here in the UK.

@silvermist Yes some people have a dental plan here which staggers the cost of payments.

@Ithink I don't like going but I make myself. I often find myself cancelling a few appointments and making another so I have time to get used to the idea! I just can't imagine pulling my own though

@sprite1950 Yes and too deep to pull out. We need to see a good dentist to do it and give us antibiotics and antiflammatory medicine to prevent infections or complications

@m_audrey6788 I wouldn't want to. It would be far too painful

If I was beyond drunk, I'll probably do this myself.

@allen0187 But if you were beyond drunk your aim might be bad and you might pull the wrong one!

@allen0187 That would be disastrous. You would have pain from the one you pulled and the bad one would still hurt

Wow, your friend is one brave person. I think it's more painful and riskier to remove our own teeth than going to a dentist. I wouldn't go to through that at all. I go to my dentist once a month for cleaning. I used to be really scared of the dentist and extraction when I was a kid. But now I'm no longer afraid of consulting my dentist whenever I have some problems.

@toniganzon Dentistry is far better now than when I was little. I'm far less afraid of going now than I was as a child.

Doing this yourself is insane, you can have a complication and then you spend a lot more money, not to mention that painkillers with liquor is very VERY dangerous.
