My son is really bent on buying a mountain bike. He was asking me how much the cheapest mountain bike in his uncle’s bike store is. I told him to ask directly to his uncle but he is shy.
He actually bought a bike from his very first salary on online writing. He told me it cost more than PhP2, 000. He used that to see the flood waters in the 2nd longest bridge of our country. The bike was also borrowed always by my brother when he wanted to do his exercise in the morning.
Too bad the bike was severely damaged during the typhoon last year; that typhoon wherein we had no electricity and no internet for more or less than 2 months.
And now, my brother’s cycle business- I told my son that maybe his uncle will allow him to buy a bike and he pay in installment. My son said the bicycles that my brother sells are all branded. I then asked him what the brand of his bike was.
“It was brand new, Mama, but it has no brand”, was his reply. We both laughed at his reply. Indeed, there are many bicycle stores here that sell bikes of unknown brands. My son’s first bike was just assembled but it worked fine.

i believe there are no second hand brands here, because it is usually given as hand-me-down to the other members of the family.
i have talked to my brother now.

Haha ha It has always become the common one liner to say when we want toemphasize that it's a new one , notasecond hand.
I was shocked when during the thriatlon held here in Legazpi City, the marketing officer said that the bicyles that the contestants use are worth about half a million and above. Oh my! What so expensive bikes they have!

right on that. mountain bikes should be sturdy because our roads are indeed rugged and difficult to bike on.

my son cannot afford very costly bikes so he was good in buying that no-brand bike; it served him well too.

@renicemae yes. my son is a good carer of anything he buys out of his money from content writing. that brand-less bike served him much; if only he brought inside the living room when Lawin was here, that bike should still be functional.

@ridingbet It's not all in the brand..it's also on how the user use and care for it.

Maybe no brand means the local OEm brand that is not well known. It doesn't matter as long it is new and ride-able.

The bike looks good. Perhaps, if he has more money to spare, he could buy a better bike next time.

In the Philippines, most of the bikes that are expensive are assembled. We call them customized. We buy a branded frame then we we buy branded bike parts. All are high end and are very expensive.
My brother's bike costs 800,000 and that's a mountain bike. A road bike is cheaper mine is at 500,000.

@ridingbet Yes. I did have a discussion. I have changed several bikes already and so did my brother and that's the cost of our latest ones. I started with a 50k mountain bike. That was my cheapest.

oh my golly. those bikes that you and your brother own are already worth fortune. your bikes are customized and good for your legs' length.
i recall that you had a discussion and you were near a bike- the bike you rode on.

Just new but not a brand name . . fine . . as long as it runs smoothly. My shirts are not brand names either. I buy most of them from Army and Navy stores not Winners (store for brand names). But I always see to it that my "briefs" are brand names (I have Reebok) and looking new every time I get out. Why? O, well, what if I meet some young or not-so-young lady and we agree to exchange "heavenly bliss" just for the fun of it . . and I am wearing an old, dilapidated brief . . nyahahahaha!

that is nice, but once we live our house, we must dress good and right, because maybe we are stripped off and we do not want our inner clothes to be that bad.

it could be that your father wanted you to work when you grow up so you can buy the bike of your choice.

Buying it with his own hardwork money is a great achievement whether it is brand new, branded or not.

i think the bikes that you have are branded. you have a beautiful car, so it is understandable that your bikes should be excellent as well.

It must be from China, or assembled then.
For a start, brandless bike is just okay. But I know, as the days go by, your son will look for a branded one, until the day come that he wanted the best bike in the country.
