Our Name has an Effect on Our Personality

Someone told me that our name somehow affects our personality. I am not sure if it is true to everybody but for others maybe. Remember that in every rule , there is an exemption.... I named my youngest son Hans Schanni. I got the name Hans from a scientist. And Schanni is the son of the waltz composer Johann Strauss who at the age of seven already compose songs. Now, my son really excel in Science and he really loves music. He is a member of their school band. He plays bass guitar and he is also a good singer. My youngest daughter's name is Sashawnee. I got it from the production staff of one of the movies I watched when I was pregnant with her. i just can't remember the title of the movie. Actually, it is Shashawnee Hall but I changed it to Sashawnee because it is difficult to pronounce. My daughter is also artistic, can easily think ideas about commercials and really loves movies... What can you say about this????

I think your likes have to do with what your children like and also what you chose to name them. However, I have had students with certain names that are all trouble-- I would never name a kid Matthew because all the Matthews I taught were little pests, but I would happily name a girl Mariko because all the Marikos I have taught have been little angels.

Names of children really depend on their parents' choice. The parents are the ones who decide on what name they are going to give to their children. Me, I really chose names that are unique and has a good meaning. I even research for it..

Nope. I don`t believe that our name has a reflection with our personality as it was given to us by parents who happened to named it by their own choice and not our personality

@magallon Yes but I think it`s just a luck that somehow got the name right for their personality.

Yes that's true. I do agree with you too. Maybe, somehow there are really instances or coincidences that a name shapes someone's likes or dislikes, or choices but not the whole personality.

That's true..I agree to that. Maybe it is just a coincident that the personality of a person is affected by its name.

I am not sure if my name affects my personality, but, I was born with the name Hannah and shortened it to Hanni so maybe Hanni fits my personality. I do not know. Very interesting question.

I too, is not sure if it is true.. But maybe for some people it somehow happens. There are persons whose names sound like devil or Lucifer. And they behave like their names too...

@Hannihar I had a student before whose name is Lucifer, and he really misbehaves in the class and he is a bully. He keeps on bullying his classmates. I think he was not able to graduate then in High school.

I think that just as you are influenced by your favorite things in choosing your child's names, this also affected them, and it is not certain that it is because of the name you gave them, but because of the good education they received from you.

Yes, parents' role will affect their children. Parents are models for their children. If you like music, your children will as long as they are exposed to it during their growth. That's my thought only.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Parents are the ones who give names to their children. That's why parents should choose intelligently the name they are going to give to their children.

@yanzalong If the parents give names that are not pleasing to the ears, their child will suffer for his life. He will be teased or bullied because of his name.

we were named to follow the first initials of our parent's names so it's really based on what they fancied.

I have many students who were named also by their parents with their initials as the first letter . Even my older sister named his children with her and her husband's initials D & J..And they have a very close bond as family members.

I don't think that your name can have an effect on your personality. But it is an interesting concept to look into. :)

No i don't agree with it. A name has nothing to do with our personality some people just soaps and give the names of the people in the soaps to their children and this does not affect their personality.

Parents should think ahead before naming their children. Someone I know was bullied before, because of his name and often involved in a fight because of it. He was bullied because he has a name for old people so they say, he was named after his grandfather "Perfecto". The bullies would say " Nobody is perfect except Perfecto" then they would make fun of him.

There are parents who really do not think about the welfare of their welfare.
