Wearing jewelry to the gym.

United States
October 3, 2017 12:16am CST
My fiancé & I joined the gym last month and he has guest privileges so my mom goes also. One thing is that I don't wear my diamond engagement ring. When I work out, my fingers tend to swell, it's uncomfortable, too flashy and I don't want to lose it. I swear sometimes people may think I'm looking at them or staring, but really I'm looking beyond them - at my fiancé or my mom since we work out at different machines/areas. I don't know if I am paranoid, but I may start wearing a dainty thin band or something. Do you wear any jewelry to the gym? I do have my everyday diamond necklace and gold bracelet, but they don't get in the way of the gym. Also, one pet peeve are those recording in the gym for Instagram/Facebook.

@LadyDuck Eeek! Yes, I never wore a ring to the gym. I do see many wearing the silicone rings though!

No, no and no! I don't see why I should wear one to the gym because it's exercise. But I don't go to the gym either. I don't wear any kind of jewelry when cycling.

@infatuatedbby I have jewelries from my childhood. I still have them and like you I get allergic reactions if the jewelry is not made of gold, silver or platinum. But I don't wear anything when I'm exercising.

@toniganzon Oh yes! From my childhood I have the jewelry I used to wear too. I used to love wearing 7 bangles, I don't know the story behind it but they got annoying when I typed so I got one chain bracelet instead. But then again, if I don't wear any jewelry I feel bare.

I have everyday jewelry that I don't change. I've worn my earrings the same ones for over 10 years. My bracelet for at least 3 years and my necklace is newly given to me at my engagement. I don't change jewelry much because I can only wear real jewelry or I get an allergic reaction.

I don't wear any jewelry when I am doing my exercise. I believe that my body should be free from those when exercising lest they get in my way and harm me instead. I believe, in a gym where everyone is doing those workouts, jewelry is not appropriate.

Especially jewelry that dangle. My necklace is very dainty and given to me by my mother in law so I don't take it off. If I did, I would probably lose it or get it tangled. For my bracelet, its a hard clasp to open.

I don't go to the gym but I wouldn't wear any jewelry if I did. I'm good at breaking or losing accessories, so it's better to avoid wearing them in my case. Especially at the gym, no need to wear them, but yes, I guess some people go there mostly for 'showing off'.

I have never broke any accessories but, for my ring I wouldn't want to drop a weight or anything on it. But the whole filming is so annoying. I don't want to be in the background of anyone filming.

@sabtraversa If someone was in my face and I know I'm being filmed, I would say something. It happens more in the weight lifting area where my fiancé hangs out most of the time. But, even though it's public I think consent is necessary because its a paid membership facility where there should be regulations on filming.

@infatuatedbby Yeah, I hate that too. I feel like they gotta ask for permission or pay me for being in their live streams. But being in a public place, I don't know how right I would be.

That is very healthy. Do you have a community pool you get to go to? The gym is quite expensive and when registering the guy tried to pull of an initial fee and all this per person. Until, I saw on the screen a no initial fee (costs more monthly) but you're also able to bring 2 guests with you each time. The guests have to be present at $55 per month. But given 3 people (my fiancé, mom and I) comes out to be like $18 per person per month which isn't bad compared to the $30-35 they quoted a month per person.

Japanese gyms are pretty strict. I don't know about rings because I don't go to the gym proper, but you are not allowed to wear any jewelry at all in the pool, not even pierced earrings.

I do not wear any jewerly but if I had an egagement or wedding ring I would wear it but nothing else to the gym. If your fingers swell when you exercise I can understand why you do not want to wear it.

I only wear my fitness tracker but since I wear that all the time, I guess it is normal. As for wearing jewelry to the gym while working out, I would not recommend it. In fact, I discourage it.

Yes, I don't think wearing jewelry is very good at a place like the gym. That's awesome you have a fitness tracker.

Yes, it could ! I avoid wearing a ring. The rest of my jewelry is dainty or has been worn for a long time many years and I don't notice a thing with it.

I wouldn't wear jewelry to the gym it could get easily damaged or even cause and accident. Look for example a necklace it can choke you. I think you need to be free off these jewellery cause of the exercise.

There is a company that I like called EnsoRIng that sells silicone rings for active people who don't want to loose/damage/get injured by their wedding/engagement ring. I love it but because it helps me with my ADHD. I am not married.

@infatuatedbby Yeah, it's great! There are a good number of styles and colors, for both men and women. Sometimes I wait for a sale. I bought the stackable ring for $9.50 when it is usually $11 or so. I'm considering getting another if they have another sale...
