myLot is the one place where I share almost everything, but I still hold some things back

United Kingdom

It's a difficult balance, I think, to say my piece and do the right thing as much as possible, whilst also protecting myself and others emotionally. It's also sometimes difficult to keep my mouth shut when I think someone's wrong, especially if that person is a friend - everyone is 100% entitled to voice their opinion, but that means they have to be ready to hear opposing opinions as well without taking them personally. Something I still have to constantly remind myself in life is that it's never too late to back down!

I have no problems holding personal stuff back. In my opinion, many members reveal too much.

It's difficult because sometimes places like this are a person's only real outlet, but that doesn't mean it's the right place to share every single thought and feeling

I'm an open book, I have nothing to hide. My life isn't that interesting but this is the only place I do have to vent or talk about things. I don't go anywhere to make friends, so I don't have any offline friends since I don't drive. It's just my kids and I home most days so Mylot is where I can come and be open about things I need to get off my chest.

@LilyBeBack Okay, I get what your saying. Thanks for going into more detail. There are times that I am a peace keeper because that is important to me, and something God has blessed me with-My gift I guess you could say. However, like everyone else there are certain things that bother me...especially when it comes to children or animals. Sometimes I voice it without holding back and I do regret it.

It's not really about having something to hide, it's more to do with choosing what's appropriate. For example I know how kind you are, so there has to have been a time when you've chosen to hold something back just in case it offends or upsets someone - not saying that you think mean or offensive things, but that sometimes people get upset or offended because they've had a bad day or whatever, and they're feeling defensive for whatever reason, and if you can see that coming then I'm sure you'd hold back rather than be a catalyst for unnecessary tension But I'm not saying that people should just keep quiet to keep the peace, that's not my point either, it's a decision we make individually on a case by case basis

On mylot I do feel like putting a lot here but I am afraid lol, not because I am scared what others may think since I am not hiding things from anyone, just afraid that mylot will deactivate my account for just writing about anything. So I try to start topics whenever I need advice in anything. I do like to share about other things too but I am afraid they will..yea...banned me or something for starting like that just to earn.

I think as long as you have a genuine interest in your topics and you don't break the rules then you'll be fine

I just come on here for a bit of banter with a select few. I don't tend to criticise other people or get involved in conflict. I'm a lover not a fighter.

This is a public site so, if you state your opinion, you are open to approval or criticism. I think the key is not to be harsh because it could become an angry situation or feelings can get hurt. But once you put a discussion or response out there, realize that it is online and anyone can say anything. My suggestion is to look for sincerity and honesty in what you read. And respond accordingly.

Another thing I've learned, which is obvious in hindsight, is that I can always add information later but I can't take back what I've already said

I'm honest no matter who you are. Which is why I hate that we can't say how we really feel about things here.

I'd agree with you My main issue is coming on here drunk and 99% of the time I'll offend someone or say the wrong thing or totally over share Last few month I've been doing very well at cutting off internet use as inebriation levels rise

i remember a new member asking if other people (nonmembers) can see our posts and if yes, it's kinda unfair. i guess they thought this is a private/closed site.

I can understand them wondering if the posts can be seen, but I can't understand why they would think it's unfair If we don't want people from real life to know it's us, we can use fake names and pictures

I have found that when I tried to say something nice to someone and explain something they got offended so I regretted I opened my mouth. I keep my mouth shut and then cannot keep it shut and opne it and regret it afterwards. It is hard for me to know when to open my mouth and say something or keep it shut altogether.
