Organic verses Conventional. Yes, No, Maybe?

My hubby and I do buy some organic foods and veggies. They are more expensive for sure and to go all organic would be allot more for groceries on our retirement salaries. I have noticed some are better tasting like the bananas and some veggies. But I do not see or have felt any real health benefits from it. From what I have read I know there are many. Have you seen a difference in your health or energy level? We are curious to know if it is worth the extra expense in the long run. Thanks!

One would have to make a long series of tests to find out a difference. I buy a lot on our local farmers' market. I know that what is offered there is not mass produced. I like that. Strawberries, for example, aren't picked in Spain when they're not mature yet and then shipped to Germany. They're picked early in the morning of the day on which they're sold or one day before. The taste is better and they aren't full of pesticides. Fortunately, I don't have to turn each cent and can pay for the produces.

I love Farmer's markets and buying from a lical farm when the fruit and veggies are just picked. I bought a box of peppers yesterday from a farmer near me and fried them up. OMG delucious and a good deal. I may go get more. We have been buying fresh corn on the cob nightly. Season goes by fast. Thank you so much

This is what I think. Whatever we can grow ourselves is best. Unless, you trust the farmer, then we don't know what's what and what they do. The world if full of liars and deceivers.
Farmers market lies exposed: hidden camera investigation. Is the produce you're buying at the farmers market grown locally? Marketplace goes on an undercover...

@Ganma7 You're welcome! When it comes to food we have to do the best we can because we all have to eat.

I used to buy most produce from Farmers Markets when we lived in Templeton. I got to know most of the vendors. We do live in an agricultural community. I also did visit an organic farm in Monterey County and picked some of the produce myself. I have also visited one of the suppliers who ran out of walnuts at the market. She lived near me and told me I could pick up more from her house. There is also a small farm nearby I used to visit regularly when we lived a mile from them. I often did the U-Pick thing there and saw the food being grown. I don't think they were certified organic, but they were sustainable farmers. For sure they were local. I'm more concerned about avoiding GMO modified food than being strictly organic. I can't afford to buy all organic produce.

Very interesting article. Thank you. I cannot afford all organic either. Locally grown & picked is even better. Happy Holidays

I rarely buy organic, anything with a heavy peal is not necessary as the peal is removed. I do buy at farmers markets locally as often as possible. Gottas has some great things. But of course, they are seasonal.

We eat organic, but the benefits are in the long term use.

The only way to eat organic and know for sure is to grow it yourself. If you know about the past and the land. But I personally do not think one is better than the other, why? Because no matter what you do to the dirt it will have some form of pollution, Just think back to 50 or 60 years ago before EPA regulations, some dumped and it was not known to have side effect. Now we can sue them for birth defeats etc. So no I do not buy organic just for that label, with that said I am 52 years old and I eat tons of fruits and veggies, I am healthy so far.

I buy some organic vegetables, if the price is close to that of other produce. I don't like the idea of pesticides being used willy nilly on what I am going to eat.

If there are specials, I buy organic, otherwise I eat non-organic. I have never been able to figure out if organic makes any real difference.

I guess you don’t get to know the result immediately. Same with eating junk food. We only know something’s wrong after we’ve consumed more than enough.

I think it is because you are not consuming the harmful pesticides. Having said that , it is difficult to always have organic and also sometimes the organic may not be organic....When we are buying in local markets
