Cast Iron Pans! My Nana's Only Cookware for 50 Years

My Nana was a great cook and had 3 pans and a lid. They were cast iron and shecwas convinced the only way to get a good result. I am 66 so many years ago I remember the 3 pans on her stove like it was yesterday. I saw this divided cast iron pan and thought of Nana immediately. She woukd have loved this. Do any of you use cast iron for cooking? If so why do you like it? I have a mix of different pans I prefer for what I am going to cook.

I have one. I like the fact I can use it on the stove top and oven.

Yes I use cast iron all the time! Fish is best cooked in an iron skillet, as a matter if fact I fried our eggs in a cast iron skillet today.

Yes, fish is great in those cast iron pans. I've also made turkey burgers.

Do you have to cure it with anything? Or oil it in any way when you first use It?

It's still widely used in my place, we are in rural place so iron plans are so common used in the kitchen.

It looks familiar but I am afraid I cannot say if it is cast iron. Maybe we used this once. the food looks yummy though. Are you cooking breakfast?

Those are definitely the best to cook with, and expensive to buy. I heard a famous chef once tell his audience the way you know you have a good pan to cook with is if you could hit a burglar over the head with it, and knock him out. Cast iron would fit the bill!

I love cast iron but I have a glass top stove, not a good combination. I am thinking about getting a free-standing burner so I can use mine.

I wanted to bring back my mother's cast iron pan but decided it was too heavy for my luggage. I like a thich-bottom stainless steel pot best. I need to get a frying pan like that too.

They are very heavy. I have arthritis so very hard to lift. I do like stainless steel too. Thank you!

I don't use a cast iron, but wish I did. They are so amazing!
