My Dwarf Papaya is Giving Fruits

Papaya in my garden.

Yay! Another fruit seeds that I have planted last April in my tropical garden is giving fruits. My papaya plant is giving delicious fruits. That is a good news. The bad news is, I am not there to eat my papaya fruits. Actually, I didn't plant the papaya seeds because we already have papayas in my garden. I threw the seeds in my selfmade compost bin last March. One day when I was digging my compost bin, I saw a small papaya plant in the side of the compost. I didn't want it to grow big in the compost and so I transfered this to the side path in going to my house, near my guava tree. When I left home for Germany, the tree was still small. I didn't know that it was a dwarf one. Well, I remember that I bought a small ripe papaya for my fruit salad in an open market and threw the seeds in the compost bin. Today, I asked my cousin if the newly planted papaya is growing well. She said, "yes, it has and we have eaten the first ripe fruits. Auntie, they were so delicious. How I wish you are here to devour them." BTW, my cousin always calls me Auntie since she was a child. The photo is my dwarf papaya bearing fruits. It was taken by my cousin this afternoon. Thanks for reading. How about you? Have you planted a fruit tree? Enjoy your Sunday fellow Mylotters. God bless us All!

This dwarf papaya tree is beautiful, what a shame you cannot taste the fruits. I like the taste of papaya.

@thelme55 It's a very good fruit. There is a Caribbean soup made with papaya and garlic and it's delicious.

I don't have a yard since I live in an apartment now but my parents planted fruit trees in their orchard, and they are producing quite well! I hope you get to taste the papayas one day.

Look at that, the two fruits are getting orange and that is the best time to harvest and eat the papaya with the vinegar and a little bit salt on it.

@thelme55 It means that the papaya isn't indigenous there so it's expensive.

@thelme55 it's also good you noticed the plant inside the compost bin and took it out to replant elsewhere and now it's bearing fruit.

Yes, I am indeed so lucky @Letranknight2015. Maybe your papaya is a male one that is why it doesn't give fruits.

Too bad you aren't there to enjoy them! I have never planted a fruit tree that I can recall, although we had many fruit trees in our yard when I was a child. I enjoyed picking oranges or pomegranates right off the tree and enjoying them as a snack. My grandparents had peach trees, plum trees, and cherry trees, so we could always pluck our snack as we played outside at their house as well.

Looks like delicious fruit. Too bad you cannot enjoy but at least your relatives can. Here in northern Europe no much fruit grows well mostly apples and pears.

Yes, my relatives have harvested the fruits that I have planted when I was not there and that is good @RasmaSandra. So true that is why apples and pears are cheap to buy here in Europe compared to Asia.

i like ripe papayas. there was a papaya tree right outside my room and i can even see the fruits. however, the elders said that is bad luck, so the tree was cut off. the unripe papayas are also good to munch especially if dipped in vinegar.
