I DESPISE hand-washing dishes. Sorry, but I grew up in a house with a dishwasher and have always lived in ones that had them as well. Our dishwasher has been broken for a few weeks now and a technician wasn't able to show up until this past Saturday. He ordered parts--a heat pump and something else. . . I have no idea. Anyway, I've been hand-washing some of the dishes in the sink each day--enough to cover two dish towels. Then I get bored and decide the dishes need to "air dry" and stop. Needless to say, the dishes have been accumulating to the point where they are now overflowing out of the sink. I just keep ignoring them. I didn't cook tonight so that didn't contribute to the disaster. My husband got home and decided to tackle them. Good for him because I have no interest in dealing with that mess. In SOME homes, when the wife cooks the husband automatically cleans up. In any case, the sink will be empty soon thank Darwin. I truly don't know how people live without a dishwasher. Just the freaking sponge grosses me out.

I have always handwashed my dishes. I have never had a dishwasher. For the most part he cooks and I do the dishes.

yeah no way. For the most part, I always cook and wind up doing the dishes. He is just doing them tonight, I suspect, because he is tired of looking at them. And because he wants a clean latte mug to make his morning cup of coffee in. I would never live without a dishwasher. They aren't that expensive. We got our first one for $5 at a garage sale.

I have never had a dishwasher, in over 45 years. Every home I've lived in had a double sink in the kitchen, one for washing dishes and the other one, for a strainer where clean dishes can drip dry.

@kobesbuddy oh it absolutely should! How can a 2017 kitchen NOT have one?

That was nice of your husband. Me and my sisters we're the dishwashers in the house we took turns washing and drying them. Now Iam the dishwasher at home but it is just the 2 of us not many dishes to worry about. Hope your dishwasher is fixed soon

Nope. No way. Not when you cook everything from scratch like I do. I seriously would stop cooking and go for takeout all the time if I had to hand-wash dishes.

I hate dishwashers, I feel like they just never get off all the grime. When I lived on my own I normally used a dishrag so I could wash it every time I did the dishes. But hey! At least he did them! That is good!

I think dishwashers get stuff so ugh cleaner due to the hot water and not using a dirty sponge or dish rag on it

Never had a dishwasher here in the Philippines. I do not think that it is common. Always hand washed the dishes. Agree with you about sponges. I change mine every month or so.

I help in cooking or cook sometimes. We both usually work on cleanup, but a dishwasher is a necessity.
