I am glad on facebook that I get announcements telling when somebody's birthday is that I am friends with. I cannot remember when their birthdays are. That would be nice here if they had that and then we could wish people a Happy Birthday without them telling us. We can give them a proper Happy Birthday or put a picture of a cake or something. What about you guys, do you think that we should know when everyone has a birthday and we can wish them a proper Happy Birthday?

I have never really understood that particular guideline but I guess there must be a reason. I would have loved to have a happy birthday thread or something like that. I wonder if admin would be open to having a particular Happy Birthday thread that just went on and on rather than lots of different threads wishing people happy Birthday. I do like it one Facebook when I know when a person's birthday is. However I'm sure that there must have been a reason why they didn't allow it in the first place.

Is it wise to let everybody know such sensitive information? I do not celebrate birthdays and have no desire to divulge such information on an open forum.

@Hannihar What someone wants to do or not do is their business. We each should have the option to decide our wishes.

Some people Felix like people to celebrate with them and would like a Happy Birthday wish and it is up to the person how they feel. They are not saying their age, just that it is their birthday, but, I learned we are not allowed to tell when our birthdays are unless we want to PM someone and let them know.

In the Terms of Use, it states we are not to put forward personal events. So it is against the rules to do so. I know some people do, and I know if someone else tells a person Happy Birthday without the birthday person telling them, then it's okay.

I personally hate it, but you can turn it off. I turned mine off. I hate birthday wishes from people who do not even like me.

I get birthday wishes on facebook of people I did not know they existed but they were friends so I unfriended them. I also deleted or unfriended people that never wished me a Happy Birthday. crossbones, I understand what you are saying. When I get announcements on facebook I decide if want to wish them or not or if unfriend them or not.

It is specifically stated in the Guidelines that Birthdays and personal goals are private matters. I would not appreciate to have my birthday announced, I even turned off my birthday date on Facebook. Too many details about our life made public is something I do not like.
