Are you a Filipino?

That question was asked by someone I bumped into in the street of London. I said no. "Is there anything I can do?", I asked her. She said no. Then she left. She might have wanted to know something she thought I didn't have the knowledge of. Did anyone mistake you like what happened to me? What did they mistake you for?

I have mistaken for a Chinese a long time ago. And I kept wondering why when I don't even look like a Chinese myself.

We people of the brown Malay race have similarities and we also share similar features with the Malaysians. Filipinos abroad have very close knit communities, I think that is the reason she inquired. I had been mistaken for Chinese countless times and once as a Japanese when I was younger

Filipinos have strong bonding with each other. Maybe that woman thought you are "kababayan" and if happens you are she might have ask your province or place. I'm sure they have Filipino organization in London and if happens you are, she might have invited you. They will not asked that if they can see you are an American or come from another country.
