Sad Phone Call

I got a phone call today that changed my whole day. I'm still numb with shock. My granddaughter, Sabrina, called just before the game started to let me know that she had gotten off the phone with her best friend, Mo. Mo's grandmother, Rose, one of my best friends, passed away last night. She was the same age as me.
Rose was a pastor's wife. Sabrina and Mo have known each other since they were in Sunday School together when Sabrina was 5 years old. Sabrina will be 24 in two days. So it has been a long friendship, though I haven't seen her often since I left the church her husband pastors.
Sabrina told me she would call me when she has news of the funeral. I just looked at the obituaries, and it's not in there yet. Mo also lives in Texas and is flying back to Green Bay tomorrow.
I've been thinking a lot about Rose for the past week, and now I know why. Rose is home with our Lord. She was one of the nicest people I know. She was always smiling. Always had something good to say, and rarely got angry about anything. I might not have seen her often in the past few years, the last time being just a couple months ago, when we met at a thrift store here and we went over to the church that was close by and talked for a good two hours. It was good to catch up and encourage each other.
I will definitely miss her and I am definitely going to her funeral as soon as I know when it is.
In other news - the Packers lost 23-10 against the Vikings, and Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone and is possibly out for the rest of the season.
Not a good day in Green Bay today. I hope your day is better.

Thank you. It is reassuring she's with Jesus. That's what makes everything bearable.
Interesting you thought of me the moment he was hurt. Hundley is good, but he's going to need to be even better if we're going to have a chance with the playoff's this year. It also didn't help that several other players also went out during the game. We're pretty banged up.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Valerie. Such sad news indeed. I am glad that you did stay in touch with her. Even though we don't see our friends often, they are always close in our hearts. Big hugs to you lady.

@just4him I would be heartbroken as well if I heard that any one of my friends passed away.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. And of Rodger's injury.

Thank you. It's a very sad loss. I'm hoping Aaron will be able to come back before the season ends and it isn't a season ending injury as they are estimating at this time. The last time he broke his collarbone, he did return before the end of the season.

My deepest condolences to you at the loss of your friend. It is very painful when we lose a loved one. But knowing she is in heaven must bring some comfort to you as I have loved ones who also are in heaven waiting for us. One day all the pain of this life will be gone. I long for that day when Jesus will come for us.

@just4him Yes it is good to know those we love that have gone on to be with the Lord we will one day see them again and we have that assurance that they aren't suffering anymore. You know I had heard in my younger years about the "Golden Years" well now that I'm 54 and suffer with pain on a daily basis and can honestly say these aren't golden years for me. My husband says the same thing. Whoever came up with that saying could not have been an older person!

That is so sad about Rose @just4him . Why is it that the nice ones pass on and the rotten ones are still hanging around! Yeah, I saw the game and couldn't believe it. The Giants beat the Broncos 23/10 too; how weird is that (score). It was the Giants first win of the season too.

@just4him I'm not sure about the Broncos. Aaron's liable to wind up like Romo when it comes to the injuries. I think Hundley should do okay. They've got another back-up too.

@nanette64 Callahan is on the practice squad. Hundley should work out okay.

Was it the Broncos first loss? That is a weird score. This is the second time Aaron has broken his collarbone. The last time he came back late in the season, and we still went to the playoffs. I'm hoping this isn't a season ending injury for him. I'm also hoping Hundley can do a good job for us. He's showed himself good in preseason.

It does, but it feels way too young, especially when we celebrated a birthday at the Y for a lady who turned 88 today. Life just seems so unfair for her to die so young. Oh well, heaven got a wonderful lady.

Valerie it certainly is. The first person I lost was my grandfather at the age of 14 and that left me so empty inside and then lost some friends. Here in Israel I make for condolence calls than anything else and hate to see people I know or a family member of someone I know die.
