Does your job have something like this? A mandatory "employee retreat day"? For the 3 years at my current job, we havent had one but I am told that earlier years they held them and just fell out of practice in the past few years.
Morale is pretty low at my company right now due to some recent major changes. In fact, I can guarantee no one will want to "have fun" with management. Its a 4 hour deal at an off site location from 3pm-7pm tomorrow. Its mandatory but we are paid overtime for it. They wanted everyone to do it on an off day, but I am doing it on a work day. So I will go to this thing from 3pm to 7pm and then work my normal 830pm to 0430am. Should prove to be a long day, but I refuse to give them my personal off day. Forget it!
It will be interesting to see some coworkers outside of a work setting. I still have no idea what activities we will do. I wish we could work a reduced day or something instead of taking it for overtime.
Do you havethese at your company? What exactly did you do? Do you find it beneficial?

They frown upon us taking a sick day when we are sick. Seems they would rather us bring an illness to a client's home. Go figure that.

@maezee we have earned time. I accrue 12 hours per pay period, which is every 2 weeks. I've been called on the mat twice because I was ill or my granddaughter was ill and I had to stay home with her.
I have had vacation time denied as well. Wow, love it so much.

@ElusiveButterfly That is frustrating. Would another employer treat you better?

I've had these company retreats and team building activities in my current one and previous jobs. It is nice to see managers and colleagues outside of the work setting but considering that I already spend a good amount of time at work, I'd rather spend my day off with other people.
Activities often include seminars but others would involve swimming, joining fun runs, and left of center activities like driving go-karts and a day at the archery range.

My moms boss has luncheons once a month or so, and during housekeepers week they do games and lunches.
