Trying Sonic Pestchaser to Scare Mice... But I Can Hear It?

So, I'm trying the plug-in-the-wall pest control that supposedly creates a noise too high pitch to be heard by humans but drives mice crazy. Well, this morning I had to unplug it from the room I was working in because it was driving me crazy! It wasn't a shrill noise or anything, but it was a constant buzzing, like a high current piece of electrical system, and I have to keep it unplugged while in the room with it. Does anyone else hear things that are supposedly inaudible to human ears?

not faced that myself - sounds like the devise you used is faulty or just not living up to its hype

Actually, I can hear them all when other people can't. Many years ago, after I got in an accident (severe brain injury) my hearing changed. So it's probably left over from that. It's also why if I go into a bar, I can't understand a word people say because there so much background chatter that it creates a white noise that I can't tune out.

@OneOfMany I get that effect too - if there are three conversations going on I can't block the wrong two out

@arthurchappell I'm sure a lot of people do, but somehow they make it work, while I (and I guess you) can't seem to.

My laptop drives me nuts. Turn it off and swear can hear it. Think there is very much a lot of truth to what you are saying and would drive me nuts also.

Perhaps since we are getting used to electronics we are becoming able to hear sounds which were previously off-limits. After all, why do we hear things? Because of the environment we live in, I'd imagine.

@OneOfMany Amen and also say really messes with our brain also. Not sure if that adds to the hearing but says it screws with the bees, why not us also?

@crossbones27 I used to sleep with my computer on in college, and now I always turn it off, and sleep better. Of course, I'm not across from my computer either, but I think it certainly doesn't help. Apparently our smart phones mess with our sleep patterns too, but I use mine as an alarm clock...

Welcome back, haven't seen you in a while. The buzz from electric devices is quite common to hear, but I guess that thing isn't supposed to make such sound anyway. It isn't the high pitched one but another, so I will say you are not a mouse, sorry.

Actually I have no idea but there have been time when I have heard a faint noise and no idea where it's coming from so that could have been something like that.

Sometimes I wonder if I would hear a dog whistle. I've never been exposed to one to find out.

Some people are more susceptible to higher frequencies. Younger people are very susceptible.

After my head injury, my hearing got better for a time. I used to be able to accurately hear a conversation at the end of a hall behind a door. That effect faded, but I still hear some sounds more than others. However, I'm useless in a crowded area. I can't hear the person in front of me because of all the din around me.

I never heard the noise but I heard something from the plug in wall pest things. (That don't even work) it was a ticking noise. I can hear the noises from tvs like that weird high pitch buzzing noise. I know my mom and my old best friend could hear dog whistles. Which is weird because my mom is half deaf, so it is pretty crazy she can hear that.

Oh my, you must have similar hearing ability as mice . (Just joking, I know nothing about this sort of thing. Never used it. BUT I am sensitive to noise in a sense.)
