I'd Like to try a New Kind of Pet

I might be ready for a new pet. I'm not sure though, because of the expense and constant responsibility that would be involved. Right now it's just my husband and I, one dog and one cat at home.
There are two animals that I've never had before, that I've always thought would be fun: a guinea pig and a parrot.
I don't know much about caring for either one. My daughter had a hamster years ago. I'm thinking that having a guinea pig wouldn't be much different. They're adorable in my opinion!
It seems to me that keeping a parrot would be more difficult. They live for many years too. But they're so smart and fascinating!
Does anyone have experience/advice about either kind of pet?

hamsters are common pets in youger generation. They are so tiny and cute.

That's true @ Behindtheguitarbar. My daughter was 10 when she had "Herbie" the hamster.

I have a small chick which I bought 2 days ago, she might grow into a chicken someday.

I love all birds! We raised chickens when I was a child. I had a couple of favorite ones who were pets.
Thanks for your comment @Letranknight2015.
