Trying New Ways to Help My Anxiety

Well this morning I ended having the anxiety that I have been having for the past week and I just don't think I can handle it being this extreme for much longer. Before I decide to go running to the doctor, I looked up some ways to help get rid of or calm down anxiety and ran to the store before I had to get ready for work. I saw the suggestions of controlling what thoughts i have and banishing the bad ones which I try to do constantly but it is hard. I will still try to do so though. I also read that chamomile tea and lavender oil both could help. Drinking the tea and then just smelling the oil or putting some in a hot bath could help. I bought a pack of chamomile tea and a lavender spray mist bottle and a roll on lavender oil applicator thing. I did feel a lot better when I sat down and used them together to calm myself. My anxiety was not 100% gone but a large amount of it had died down so I am going to continue to do this until I am fine or until I need to go see the doctor if it starts killing me again. It is 10pm here and I have to work tomorrow so the thoughts are kind of triggering my anxiety already. Gonna do what I did this morning and pray I can feel better in the morning. How do you deal with anxious feelings?

Well I pray, sing, write about my feelings here and I try to think of positive things happening in my life. My kids and husband bring me great joy so I try to focus on them instead of what I'm feeling. Breathing also helps, as in labor kind of breathing.

I do try to breathe but it doesn't always work. I don't pray often so I feel like if I pray just because I have problems then I won't be heard because I am doing it only because it is convenient to me. Does that make sense?

Singing helps as it causes you to control your breathing. Praying is good for all of us if we just will do it. I pray, even when I feel out of practice of praying.

I had to go to the doctor for it. Mine was really REALLY bad. I was having daily panic attacks and it was driving my blood pressure up to unsafe levels. I'm on medication for it and I'm much much better now.

Its good to know the doctor was able to help you. I am going to keep giving my new tricks a try and if it doesn't help me then I'll go to the doctor.

@IvySaysHi It is worth trying all sorts of different things. For me, I needed professional help in the form of medications. My doctor saved my life.

I do drink lots of herbal teas. I use lavender and some other oils around the house. Lately any time I want to calm down and lower stress I do the 4-7-8 breathing pattern. Breathe in through nose four counts hold that breath seven counts, exhale through mouth 8 counts. Look it up, I believe Andrew Weil promotes it. A visualization a friend in my brother's church told us about that struck a chord with me is this: Open your hands and lay them face down flat on a surface, like a table. You cannot hold onto anything in this position, including negative or anxious thoughts. Then open them, hold them up and be open to receive blessings (or peace) into your open hands. I hope you feel better and better. It helps to name the anxiety and then do what you can to work around it and it makes you feel stronger.

Thank you so much. I'll look into the breathing and try to do it. I will try out the visualization as well

I have tried breathing. I don't know that praying would help me very much as I don't pray often

I know about anxiety. Not a good feeling. I know. I feel for you. It is not easy to remove thoughts like that out of your head. I dealt with a lot in my life. I know being here helps and just being emerged in something.

I try to tell myself that I can do it! I try to find self talk that is encouraging and gentle and not mean spirited- me putting me down is super not a good way to go.

Yeah I have been trying really hard to keep my thoughts positive but doubts still creep into my mind. It is hard but one day I will be able to do it.

@IvySaysHi Not huge, crazy positive thoughts. Little ones and loving yourself; not expecting perfection. Just go with the flow.
