Should we always drink 8 glasses of water everyday?

It is said that in order to maintain the body health we are suggested to drink 8 glasses of water everyday. Well, I drink water more than the amount required. Today I think I have drunk 15 glasses of water. The weather is rather hot today and I feel so thirsty. So, I think I drank more or less 15 glasses of water in a day. Is drinking too much water can harm the body? What do you say? Image credit: pixabay

Drinking rather too much water is less likely to harm you than drinking too little. Too much water dilutes the electrolytes (salts) in the blood and can make you sweat more than you need to but you would have to drink two or three times the recommended amount of one and a half to two litres a day to really poison yourself. On the other hand, drinking too little can cause serious damage to your kidneys. The best guides to how much water to drink are 1) Your natural thirst. Drink a a little water whenever you feel thirsty 2) The colour of your urine. If it is pale straw colour, then you are probably drinking enough. If it is strong and orange, you should be drinking more water. Try to avoid drinking much, if any, for about 2 hours before you sleep. Too much water in the system disrupts the natural cycle and may make you wakeful as well as having to get up to relieve yourself during the night.

Water can come from fruits as well. I don' know about it. People say so. What I know different people should not drink the same amount of water. If you sweat a lot you need a lot of liquid, not necessarily from drinking water.

About glasses, don't know. I rather suggest to take 3-4 ltr of water per day. We should not take more than 6 ltr in a day else kidney can't process it's function.

I believe Yes we should drink 8 glasses of water a day. But in real life, I don't do that. I can't drink water that much specially when I am just at home doing nothing.

I was also like you. But nowadays as the weather is rather hot here, I get thirsty easily and therefore I drink more water than usual.

As far as I know, it's better to get your water either from food or from drinking water while you're eating food, because that way the body can take it on more easily rather than just letting it pass straight through

Well, if I accumulate the amount of water I drank from drinking water and food, it can be more than 15 glasses, I think.

@sol_cee I don't have to visit the loo so often. I guessed my body absorbed all water I drank and didn't waste it.

To be honest, I can't drink much water anymore because I cannot pee anymore. I am required to have at least 8ml of water every day. So I think it's a no-no for more water to me.,

Yes, we should drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Water is very essential for our body. It purifies our body. During summer season we should have more water or we will become dehydrated ,which will later makes us sick. There are chances of getting kidney stones also. Drinking water will never do any harm,it will do only good.So its necessary for everyone to drink water..

I don't think it is. Drinking more water is encouraged especially when it is hot. I am a poor water drinker the only water i can drink comfortably is warm water.

Drinking too much in a hot situation won't cause any harm, but drinking too little in any situation is bound to create health problems
