A beggar thanked me saying "Arigato (thank you)"

It seems that most of the things I experienced during my stay in London are still clearly seen in the back of my mind. One of them was when a beggar thanked me saying Arigato (thank you). He may have thought I was a Japanese tourist who wore a long hair ponytailed at the back. He thanked me for a couple of cents I threw into his upside down hat before him.
What's your experience when you visited a foreign country? Love it if you could share it here.

Beggars in London seemed to want cash as most beggars in my country too.

@yanzalong I know the ways of beggars in the US, and try to be kind to them. But I'd avoid the ones in Europe, as I don't know their ways. I wouldn't want to lose my wallet or passport while holding a cute baby in my arms.

@yanzalong I am just saying I didn't come into contact with them. Every country has them.

I don't blame the beggar though, you looked like a Japanese.

Most beggars in Germany come from Eastern Europe and are organised in gangs. They are taken to the town centres by car in the morning and collected again in the evening. They are like slaves. It's a sad life for them. But if you give them money, the boss of the gang gets it in the end.
