Don't You Just Love Roof Repairs?

Roofers at Work

I know they are necessary, but I sure hate the process. Roofers like to start work early. I like to wake up late. The two don't mix. Guess who wins? I thrive on quiet. I need it to stay sane. Roofers are far from quiet. There's nothing like waking up to the thought that someone is tearing your bedroom wall apart. No! Make the the roof right over your bedroom. Makes Barb grumpy and desperate for somewhere to escape. Not escaping leads to insanity. This was day 2 of roof repair. I escaped this morning to go sign some legal papers in Templeton. Since there wasn't much but noise to go home to, I took a photo walk while I was there. I may share some of that in another post if there is time. Tomorrow is day 3. Not sure where I will flee tomorrow. I do know I won't get my full night's sleep tonight. How well do you handle the banging and thumping when your roof is being repaired or they are doing a construction project on your house? Do you try to escape? If so, where do you go? I ate lunch at the park yesterday and went to a doctor appointment in the afternoon. By the time I finished everything the roofers were gone.

Our roof is guaranteed for 50 years, the house is only 25 years old, with a bit of luck I will never see a roof repair.

@LadyDuck I'm glad we've never had to deal with snow here. WE may get a sprinkle of it every few years that melts within hours.

@bagarad Tiled roof are very expensive here in Switzerland, they must built to support the weight of the snow. Some years we can get A LOT of snow in winter.

I was just roused five minutes ago. I'm not functional enough yet to get dressed and eat and get out of here. Maybe I'll reverse that order -- get out of here and then eat. I'm still too tired to drive.

I don't remember what I did when I had the roof redone in my last place, and thankfully, the roof here was redone within the last 10 years, so I won't have to go through that again for some time.

Add to all of that...the flat tires after you find a roofing nail the contractors left behind......

Now that is a painful and deflating subject I'd rather not think about. Fortunately they threw most of the trash down where the cars don't drive. Nails would be easy to see on the driveway. At our other house that only has a dirt driveway it would be a much worse problem.

They did ours a couple of years ago. I went to work so I heard nothing. You are right re: they began very early, and by 3, I didn't see anyone any more.

@bagarad Is the work supposed to be finished soon? Mine took about a week (2 levels!).

@YrNemo They have just made repairs, not replaced the entire roof. It just seems like it. They have finally finished, and I'm really happy about that.

Yes, it is very bothersome but these things need to done. Here, we have big shopping centers that one can escape to or they can visit family that lives somewhere else but most people feel they need to supervise to make sure that things are done to their liking.
