I use Emoticons sometimes, not always.

Is there a positive result from using Emoticons? According to an article I am reading at the moment, from bufferapp dot com, there are 7 reasons for using Emoticons based on science ... In my search for the dirt on what Emoticons are all about I found the link below of good value.
Emoticons and emojis aren't just for teenagers and texting. A variety of scientific studies show they can have big communication benefits for all.

I sometimes use emoticons to express my thoughts if I cannot expand it somehow.

It is wise to first make a fully sensible comment, and if you wish to add an Emoticon to it for extra punch, it is okay. But I do not think it wise to just comment with an Emoticon and not say anything else. It probably would not count as a comment as per earnings.

@JustBhem What I am trying to say is if I for instance, only responded to all the discussions with an Emoticon but did not write anything in the box for Comment option it would look pretty silly and I would probably be pretty much ignored by all. But you always write nice comments and I appreciate that.

I have not used them as yet as I am not sure about most what they convey. I need to understand them more - siva

I use them quite often, not sure why it is just what I do.

It's a natural habit that most if not all of us share.

Interesting. I use them to send smiles and express me laughing but not any others.

The Emoticons can emphasize your feelings. For instance if I were to say, "Have a nice day" but follow up with an Emoticon like this one, , then it would seem as if I was not being sincere. It would negate the comment because the angry Emoticon is usually used to express anger at something you are commenting about, but seldom used to be funny about. Emoticons generally are only used for emphasis.

one thing I hate about text, written/ typed messages is the fact that it's not expressive enough. So yeah I always use emoticons to express myself more

I think that is why they are made available. We need to text our comments first then if we want to, we have that option to add one or two Emoticons to add a bit of spice to our comments.

@Shortail , I started out here not knowing anything about them. I had to learn from others the same way. It's like, Oh, Really? They have funny faces I can use? I have not even used Tags yet. , I like to play it safe actually.

If I remember right, in the old Mylot it is has some bearing on earning, same holds true for length and quality of posts, stars from thumbs up and thumbs down etc... I could be wrong in my observation but senior members from the old site tend to use it more, perhaps habitual See what I mean?
