In Search of Fall Foliage

We are in Vermont visiting my brother and since it is mid-October, I expected that the foliage in this part of the world would have been getting to the point of being past. Not this year, the foliage is very late and it is not even at its peak yet. On the way up, the trees had hardly even begun to turn. I just took this picture from the back porch and as you can see while there isn't much color in his yard, the mountain behind has begun to show some pretty colors. I hope that we will see a little more on our way home tomorrow. I know that two years ago when I was in northern Massachusetts in late October the leaves were almost all on the ground already. It is a strange year for foliage that is for sure.

Well, it could be worse. Come visit us here in Florida and check out our fall foliage! We've got green in the trees, and brown on the ground. And right now there is more brown on the ground than there is green in the trees, thanks to hurricane Irma!

@BelleStarr And most of the rest of us around the country are very envious of those spectacular shows you usually get!

Nice picture! Yes, the colorful leaves are a bit behind schedule as it has been unusually warm this October.

@JohnRoberts That is so sad not even if you go up to Big Bear? I guess I am just spoiled having always lived in New England.

The mountains in the back look nice. Our leaves are almost all gone now. We had so much wind that a lot of leaves didn't even get a chance to turn before they were blown off.

My husband is starting to rake in our yard at home but the leaves that are down are not that colorful, some yellow but I think this foliage season is pretty much a bust for us.

The foliage have changed color later this year. They are now yellow and red and are already falling on the ground. Your area must be beautiful.

With this awful storm, most of the leaves have hit the ground before we really got to enjoy them.

Still mostly green here. My son was visiting today and reminiscing about his trip to Montreal via Vermont last year. He mentioned how gorgeous Vermont looked with the panorama of fall foliage in the mountains. Hope you get some nice leaf peeping in!

By the time we came home it was getting better but now I guess that the ran and wind would have knocked down most of the leaves.

Usually, by this time we would have been seeing the end of the foliage season not the beginning.

Strange in the Boston area, too. I keep waiting for the red leaves, my favorite, but they haven't shown up yet

No here either, I do have some golds but the reds seem to be scarce this year.

Here where we live in Ontario, our foliage is also late, not impressing at all.

Its the same here and its caused by Global warming. The woods behind my house are full of Maples and the color is usually gorgeous...but not this year. A good friend of mine went on a Vermont color trip last week from Kansas and sadly there were no colors to enjoy...when living in Kansas I missed the fall the worst, because the leaves in Kansas just die and turn brown. Looks like the color might be gone for good.
