Just Got Home

Today was a lot longer than I expected. The service was two hours long, and heartfelt as many people spoke about Rose and what she meant to them, and told some stories that had us all laughing. Then her great granddaughter sang Jesus Loves Me and the tears just flowed. I also went out to the cemetery for that service. The whole day was beautiful in every way, including the weather. Rose and Ed are originally from Mississippi and New Orleans. I got a good taste of a southern funeral service, especially one where the Lord Jesus is at the center of it. Not a lot of tears because everyone knows Rose is with her Savior right now. Tears shed were on our parts because she's no longer with us, and that's our sorrow. It was truly a celebration of her life. Following the service at the cemetery, which looked familiar to me, was the reception luncheon at a restaurant. I was thinking I could have meat, potatoes and a vegetable. Try potatoes and vegetable. They served chicken. Something I can't eat. It was easy to keep to my diet. The cemetery looked familiar because as I was leaving, I realized my parents are entombed there in the mausoleum. My mother passed away two years ago yesterday and was the first interred there, and my dad passed six months later in April. So that was my whole day. I'm still thinking about a nap, but we'll see. I was up before 3 AM this morning. How was your day? Thanks for reading.

Glad to hear that they had a good celebration of her life. By the sounds of it she was well loved by many. Must have been difficult for you when you mom and dad both passed in such a short time span. I had a pretty good day. Just home relaxing now.

As we would say in my country "she had a great send off." I am glad that the day went well. Those who have passed no longer feel pain or sorrow, but family and friends will be feeling it.

I think when people pass away we often cry more for our loss than for the fact that they have passed.

So true. I know she's happy now, with no more pain. I learned she had heart trouble and diabetes and was always in pain, despite how active she was and the smile she always had. She never let the pain overwhelm her.

@just4him I can see why you wanted a nap after being up so early.

Being it was late in the afternoon when I wrote that post, I probably didn't nap but went to bed early. Hard to believe it's almost a year since she passed.

I'm sorry about the loss of your friend (your parents, too) -- your friend had a wonderful smile. You paid lovely tribute to her here.
