What a difference a week makes

We travelled to our old home town again a few days ago and stayed with my sister. I featured her lovely wisteria in one of my recent posts but it looked very different today. A week and some strong winds have seen many of the blossoms falling to the ground and carpeting the surrounding area.
I like the look of the grass covered with these pretty blossoms but I know most will bemoan the work involved in sweeping them up. The beauty of some things doesn’t last very long does it?

Arr what a shame. It is the same as Magnolia trees here the flowers are beautiful but only last a couple of weeks!

I have two huge magnolia trees in my front yard, and for about two weeks the flowers covered the trees. But like you said, they don't last long and quickly dropped to the ground. Such a shame, magnolia trees are beautiful when they are in bloom!

@moffittjc My mother had a beautiful magnolia tree although normally where she lived was too hot for them to do really well. They are certainly very lovely trees.

Beautiful flowers don't last long but you can see them bloom again soon

The wisteria has been very beautiful but is past its best now.

It reminds me of my two crape myrtle trees in my yard. Luckily, the blooms last most of the summer, but once they start dropping, it looks like snow on the ground around the trees.

@JudyEv I am a big fan of crape myrtles. One thing I don't like about how people care for them here in the US is the fact that they butcher them every season when they lose their leaves. They are meant to grow as beautiful flowering trees, but people trim them all the way back to their main trunk because they don't like the scraggly look of the branches.

@moffittjc I think there is room in Nature for plenty of scraggly branches and blossoms on the ground

Lovely photo.
Thanks for sharing it.
I actually appreciate its blooms carpeting the surrounding area. I won't mind the work of sweeping it up.

@JudyEv I love it but I may have mine cut down with the tree its in, but there are a million sprouts all over the ground, so it wont be gone for good.

It is a carpet of blossom petals for the kitty to walk on.

nice photo... you're right .. some things are gone too quick... especially flowers and plants at the mercy of the weather ...

@judyev I'd leave the blossoms where they are. It reminds me of thick carpets of Jacaranda blossoms that I used to play in in Africa.
As for the sweet passing beauty of flowers:
"As for us, our life is like grass.
We grow and flourish like a wild flower;
then the wind blows on it, and it is gone—
no one sees it again."
