I was so enamored with this image that I just plain had to use it. So this will be a post about reading.
From the time I was very young I love books. As a matter of fact when I got a treat or toy for being a very good girl I would always ask for a book.
At about 5 years old my mother started to take me weekly to the town library. To me it was a little bit of heaven. There were so many books to choose from.
By the time I was in 3rd grade I was reading books such as "Five Little Peppers And How They Grew" and "The Bobbsey Twins". To my delight the librarian gave me a stack of these books when they were replacing them with new ones.
I am happy to say that I have passed on my love of books to all three of my girls and they have in turn passed their love of books to their children.
Reading is such an important part of learning that I wish every child had the love instilled in them.
How do you feel about books? Can you take them or leave them or do you feel the love for them that I do?

@mikaelajuliet I think you are right. If they don't like to read they certainly won't like the library.

My boyfriend gets the same way! I suppose keeping someone at the library for hours who isn't a reader might not be the best thing... lol

Unfortunately my mother wasn't very encouraging to me when I was younger when it came to reading.
I remember reading a book that I had to read for school and I got so involved in it that I had to share it with her. She listen to me tell the story for a few minutes and then told me she didn't have time. I wish you had been more encouraging to me when it came to reading.
Whenever Little Miss wants me to read her book and sit and read. She has her favorite books and we read them over and over again. Whenever I see books for sale at the Goodwill we stop and she chooses one or two or three or four. Soon we'll have to buy another bookshelf for because it's filling up fast.

I have been an avid reader since being young. I prefer the feel of a real book over these ebooks and Kindles.

My mom was my first teacher and I was reading before I started school. Books I recall reading were the mother goose nursery rhymes (quite young) Grimm's fairy tales (Hansel and Gretel gave me nightmares), Tom Sawyer, King Arthur and the knights of the round table, Robin Hood and when I was older delighted in reading the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series.
Nowadays kids hardly read books preferring the internet. One grand daughter enjoy reading stories in Wattpad which I find encouraging. Hopefully this will spur her to contribute stories of her own to the site.

When I was just a kid and our home light is just the gas lamp I remember I love to read many stories. But when I grow up, those habit are also forgotten by me.

I enjoy reading. Don't do as much reading now as I used too, but you can learn a lot from a book, and develop a stronger imagination and sense of peace.

I do not read as much as I used to, but my kids grew up getting to go to the library all the time. It was often a reward for behavior I wanted from them, like getting home on time from school. My daughter's kids love books. My son's wife has learning disabilities and her girls were not raised to be readers and do not like books.

It's a shame that the one set of grandkids don't like reading. Maybe with a little encouragement they could learn to. As for your other grandchildren it is a wonderful think to have the love of books. Reading can take you places that you have never been.

That is great that you passed that on to your girls. I love to read too. I have a friend that gives me books and after I finish they I return them to her and we have a used book store I like when I want to buy books too. Also you bring one of their books back or a book they accept if in good condition and get money off on the next one you buy. I do not know where I got that from but I find it so relaxing to sit on my porch and read a book that is interesting.
