I didn't even know what to say....

Today when I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription I ran into the daughter of my friend who recently passed away. As soon as she seen me she came over to talk and right away she started to cry. It broke my heart. I knew that there was nothing I could say or do that would ease that pain. I hugged her and told her I loved her. She just gotten out of the hospital after being there a week. She is having such a hard time without her mom. In talking she mentioned that she needed a prescription but she would be broke because she hasn't been working with her mom dying and then being in the hospital. She felt like her whole world was falling apart. I know she didn't expect it but I paid her prescription for her. She was so thankful. It is not much but I did what I could. If her mom had been living she would have helped her out. It us tough and so sad. She hugged me so tight. I wish I could have said more but I just didn't know what to say. I watched her girls grow up. They were very close with their mom. She was their everything.

A friend at our son's wedding lost her son recently and cried occasionally throughout the night. All we could do was comfort her with hugs and let her grieve. You were very compassionate and did a good thing. Her mom must have been smiling down from Heaven on you.

There is not much to say. Your actions speak much louder than words.

Oh my goodness I'm sure that was heart breaking for you. =( I know it would have been for me too. I'm glad you could help her though when she needed it the most.

That is very sad. I'm glad you were able to help in this way. Don't worry - you don't need to say anything in these cases. The hug would have said it all, not to mention helping with the prescription.

I think that you were in the right place at the right time for this young girl. And seeing you she probably sees hope, or I would like to think that she does. That was so kind of you to help her out. I've run into people after losing someone, and its better if they don't speak then if they fill the air with words that don't mean anything. I hope that she finishes her grieving and goes on living as it sounds like she could be quite a joy to you.

@Happy2BeMe That's right. She won't ever have inner peace if she doesn't allow herself the time that she needs to grieve, and there is no set time frame for that. I hope that she's going thru it, its tough, but a necessary process.

@Juliaacv You are so right. You have to figure it out on your own. Everybody grieves differently.

Poor girl. Sounds like she's going through a really rough time. Sometimes offering a shoulder to cry on is all we can do. It was nice of you to pay for her prescription.

Sometime the best thing to do is just listen when you don't know what to say and that was very nice of you to do that for her.

Nice that you were able t help out with the prescription and offer a shoulder to cry on. The pain of losing a loved one might lessen with the years, but it never goes away.

Dealing with grief is not easy, you just have to do what seems right. You made a good decision and I am sure mother and daughter are grateful.
