Down to the little horse, rain pelting me. Not super hard rain but enough to leave me saturated. I clipped some snacks for him then back to the house. Peeping stopped me in my tracks as I headed in through the front wooden gate. I looked around, no longer intent on my business. I realized that little girl finches were feeding on the bent, seed laden sunflowers, by the shed. I leave those summer remnants for any hungry bird who happens by. I wished her and her kind well as I made my way to the dryer house. She'd reminded me whose place our Dunne Alba really belongs to.

I have loved it when I had sunflowers for the birds. Maybe I can do it next year as well.

@GardenGerty They probably are, so long as they are not moldy or wet.

I've been getting a whole lot of small sparrow like birds feasting on the now dried up black eyed susans, they were so chirpy a couple mornings ago but they've already eaten the lions share of seeds.

@rebelann I know. I tell the pups to leave the little guys alone.

@rebelann You would love it when my crazy dogs jump and bark at the innocent sparrow tribes in the rosebush.

This touched my heart, I love finches and most other birds, also. We feed the wild animals, that come around, also.

@kokesbuddy I'm glad you are touched. The only food that I refuse to give the wild ones are the hens. We have wire over them and around them or they would be somebody's dinner.

I have had a whole flock of finches inhaling my bird seed the last few weeks. Yesterday, I glanced out the window to see a Cooper's Hawk perched on my pole where the feeders hang.

@JamesHxstatic When we lived in town, we fed the finches. One afternoon I saw a gorgeous hawk perch on our copper arch, goldfinch in his talons. The cycle of life.
