Worrying Reading...

Apair of conkers, or horsechestnuts, in their spiky jacket, on a leaf from the horsechestnut tree.

I do wonder why I read about things that make me fear reading more about them lest I start to lose sleep... Who is it that is keeping us safe, I wonder? Apropos the picture up top, it is just a wonderfully seasonal photo off Pixabay.... of a pair of conkers, or horsechestnuts, in their spiky jacket.
The U.S government issued a rare public warning that sophisticated hackers are targeting energy and industrial firms, the latest sign that cyber attacks present an increasing threat to the power industry and other public infrastructure.

I'm afraid I'm more of a 'head-in-the-sand' type of person when it comes to that sort of article. Thanks for labelling your picture - non UK people may not know what it is.

That's a great photo. I try not to read too much bad stuff. There is nothing I can do about it anyway so why worry myself with it?

Yes, like this we'll known saying: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.

@pgntwo It's a great saying isn't it? I thought there was another made-up ending but I can't find it. However I did come across this: God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. Not sure about that one!

Beautiful chestnut, I think is not an edible, it looks like conker. I also have the bad habit to read those things that make me sick all the day, not to mention the nights.

@LadyDuck Curiosity killed the cat. A bit like my sampling of a BabĂ  au Rhum sold by Lidl today - pleasant enough, but capable of so much more...

Yes, the pic shows the inedible 'horsechestnut', or "conker" in the UK. I think i shall have to give up reading newspapers or watching television news programs, for my own sanity.

Hmmm... are horse chestnuts the same thing as buckeyes, pgn? Those look just like the buckeyes we pick in Monett park in the fall. (Okay, I looked up the difference between those two nuts. We have buckeyes here.) I wonder why you do that, too, pgn, especially if you are going to let the information bother/upset you. I might read reports like that because I like to know things. (What I know is not necessarily something I can use or that I can do anything about... but on occasion, things I have learned from reports like that might give me a clue to something else that I can use or do something about.) Don't worry, pgn... you reading reports that make you uneasy is no worse than me reading reports just because I like to know things. *sigh!* Okay, so we are both weird... SMH! We can't be the only ones in the world like that, right?

I suspect we are not alone in that respect, no. Live in ignorance, it's bliss, or so I am told.

A wise decision. Why go looking for trouble? Trouble finds you soon enough, usually when least expected or desired.

In the UK, the picture shows a horse chestnut, actually two in a single spiky covering. They are collected and used to play a game called "conkers". In the USA, i think they are called "buckeyes", but I am prepared to be corrected, @Lignitecityabishek96.

Argh and darn those hackers. Oh yes, I do the same . . . there's so much out there we can read about - articles and related articles that make us want to live in hidden caves. We can fear this world, but I refuse to lose sleep over it (I lose sleep over personal things as it is ).

@pgntwo Right? I wonder if hackers ever lose sleep . . . wondering if they will ever get caught and suffer the consequences .

Yes, the loss of sleep, that is the thing. Maybe we'll die through lack of sleep before the hackers (indirectly?) kill us in our beds... Did you notice what I did there?
