Is self-love the most important kind of love?

Every time I see someone very passionate talking about who the other person is the reason he / she is living makes me super confused. How can you be so dependent on someone other than yourself? This doesn't seem to make sense to me. First, you have to love yourself to feel confident not to depend on anyone. Am I cold for thinking like this?

Self-love is important because you can't pour from an empty cup. You should take care of yourself first so you may take care of others as well.

You are very right. You have to love yourself before you can love another.

No, not at all. You have to love yourself to be able to love others in the same way.

Wait, self-love and self-idolatry are two different things! I agree we should take good care of ourselves, try to be independent and work on our goals. If you love yourself, you'll look good in the eyes of others, including your potential partner. I wouldn't like a person who let themselves die or always whine or asks for my help. Humans are social creatures and hermitage is not the ideal choice, so it's okay to be fond of other people and take care of them, especially when they reciprocate. Self-idolatry is when a person literally worships themselves, thinks they're the best all the time, floats in selfishness and so on. And that's a bad thing, definitely cold, in my humble opinion.

no, that doesn't make you a cold person, you just have your own outlook on things that's all. Well of course the self love doesn't go away, it's inside you. And having another person as your means of living isn't being dependent at all, it's just simply love that becomes your life and became one as your own. It doesn't makes sense right? Maybe because it's such a foolish act

Of course. I think so. To love others, you must first love yourself. If you do not love yourself, you can not love others. Love is important, but do not overdo it.
