Do you feel vaguely guilty when you get a "bad word" warning on MyLot?

I've been known to swear like a sailor around certain friends. But I tend to keep it pretty clean on MyLot. Still, I occasionally get the "bad word" warning on MyLot, and I wind up feeling vaguely guilty. Usually it's because of a typo, but sometimes I'm caught by surprise by a word that's not allowed. My most common typo occurs when I'm talking about a shirt. My "r" key is not very responsive, and that throws me into the world of Mylot sin. But a couple of words caught me by surprise. I think I'll experiment and see if I can remember which words they are. I love my buddy's p*ussy cat, Charlie. He always purrs when I pet him. Is there a bird called the great tit? When I'm alone, I sometimes like to fart loudly. I feel like an ass when I say something stupid. At the liberal preschool where I work. we use "penis" and "vagina" for what some people refer to as "private parts." OK, here goes: Aha! Only "p*ssy" is a naughty word. Have you ever been caught by surprise when you posted a "naughty" word without meaning to? If you do an experiment like mine, let us know the results. Heh.

I don't feel guilty at all, not even vaguely! What I think is, "Typical American!" Don't ask. I won't elaborate on this. I experienced this several times. It took me quite a while to find out what or rather where the problem was. One example: Once I tried to write that someone made a slight noise while laughing. I don't know how else to describe it. The correct term contains a set of letters which - as a word - mean a derogative term for African Americans.

@TheHorse You're on the wrong track. The profanity filter finds taboo words inside *completely harmless* words! It has a dirty mind. It's the 'n' word. Someone 's*iggered'. No chance for this word to pass.

@MALUSE Oh, I wonder if that has the same meaning as "snickered."

Sometimes it really amuses me what they take exception to on here. We can say smartass, but not the 'dumb' kind, and we can't call a female dog by the word in the dictionary. We also have a town in the UK which we're not allowed to mention - Sc**thorpe.

The system has taken me by surprise many times because it picks out words from inside a word and even by spanning two words. There have even been a few that I have not understood.

I've had myLot come up and tell me that Danny Kortchmar's nickname is a dirty word. I didn't know that. Apparently neither did the people who've called him that for 50 years.....

@TheHorse -- Kortchmar is James Taylor's long-time guitarist. He also played guitar for Carole King (in fact, they were in a band, called The City, together). He was in a band called The Section, and they were L.A. rock staple session musicians. Most famously, I suppose, he worked with Jackson Browne in the late 70s and Don Henley's solo career in the 80s. Songs he's written include "Honey, Don't Leave L.A." (Taylor), "Shaky Town" (Browne), and "All She Wants to Do Is Dance" (Henley). His nickname is something you say after "coo" while you're tickling a baby's chin. And, as I said, I had no idea it was considered a "dirty word." Here he is playing guitar with Carole:

If I want to say something like "scared the sh*t out of me," and nothing else would express it as well, I'll just use the star key.

Yes, I was very surprised when I wrote a discussion about h omo sapiens in fact I tried to include a link with that word in the title as it pertained to anthropology and even that was deemed profane. Well, I suppose we are a profane bunch, right

Oh darn @TheHorse well the word h omo certainly is but the algorithm that checks for obscene words didn't have a problem with sapien.

@rebelann I wonder if the algorithm could be improved (for example, not to consider h*mo bad if it's followed by sapien, or is a part of hom*genized).

I get the bad word checks all the time, often when letters within an innocent word just happen to come together as a bad word, or in using a word legimitately in a context, as in the name given to a female dog, not in its use as a term of abuse towards someone - it makes me swear being stopped for it when i'm innocent

I don't feel guilty at all, they're just words; if myLot doesn't like them, it's okay, won't use them. Meaning can change, bad words aren't always bad. I know, myLot doesn't. Is H*mo Sapiens still a bad one? Yes, it is.

The expression "bra/ss monkeys" threw me a curve when I first tried to use it here... I use it when the temperature outside is very low, an old nautical term for the metal stand that held cannon balls in place.

I got the naughty word warning only once and believe it or not, it was on my Bible study. The word was in the Bible and I had to change it to an acceptable word. I was really worried when I did Song of Solomon with all the words in there that could be taken for bad, but they all passed the naughty word test, to my surprise.
