If happen you make pilgrimage tour in Ilocos provinces you will see lots of belltowers detached from its mother church. Sometimes the distance is almost 20 meters apart from the main church. Churches in the town of Santa Maria and Santa lucia including Vigan City have detached belfry. This one is in the town of Bantay, the farthest distance I have seen among the Catholic churches. Photo is mine

very different from all the churches I have seen. and it was build on a hilltop. it is beautiful. maybe because they want the ringing of the bell to be heard in distant places. Commonly, the belfry is built just beside the church. Like the one that we have in our province. The one in the attached picture.

@ilocosboy yes, that;s the common setting. Even here in Manila, I have not seen a belfry which was built separate from the church.

I'm just wondering what's the biggest reason why they are built apart.

I wonder why wouldn't they just rebuild the church there. I was there two years ago when my cousin had a vacation. It was wonderful but the Tshirts were a bit expensive

Yeah, I think the most special architecture of the Philippines are the churches, most built 4 decades ago and most of them are still erected.

Most churches I see have the belltowers close to the main church. Perhaps because they are not that big.

Maybe that is the reason why some have detached bell tower.

The big bell was placed at the top most of the belfry, during the 18th century and until now, this was ring to let people know its time for my, 6 o clock payers, among others.

Most churches are built in baroque architectural designs.
