I want a writing room...

The only place in my house where I can put my laptop and write is the dining room table. What I really want is to have a room to use solely as a writing room; a room that is spacious, is surrounded by books, and has a window with a scenic view. Maybe one day that will happen. For now, I have to resort to the dining room to write, which isn't very inspiring. Does anyone have a room like that?

Yes, I sure do! My husband has a home business, so he turned one of our spare bedrooms into an office. Now, that he is no longer in business, it's where I do most of my reading and writing on the desktop computer. Here's a picture of the room, I'm telling you about.

That's nice, except I'd want the desk to face the window with the scenic view.

@lovebuglena Our window is on the right, in this picture. So to view outdoors, I have to turn my head. The book shelves are on the far left, and a futon on the opposite wall. It's pretty cozy, during the winter months.

Our fourth bedroom is our office and I do my writing there so I'm very lucky in that respect.

@eagletrek2 That's creative thinking isn't it? We turned a laundry into a darkroom once but had to change it back regularly.

I would love to have an office. I already decided what it would look like. 1 half would be books, notebooks, my desk, maybe a lounge and my computer and such and then the other side would be all my crafting haha what a dream.

Take care with the "window with a scenic view" for writing. Stephen King says in his "On Writing" (an excellent book, BTW, to improve this skill) that there's nothing like a blank wall in front of your eyes when it comes down to writing. And I think he's right. Writers should focus on the writing and only on the writing.

The scenic view is inspiring and can lift you up when you are down.

@ourlot True, if you are writing those type of emotional pieces at the time. But also being very down can cause you to not be in the mood to write. Been there myself.

@lovebuglena I totally get your point. Just don't dismiss the fact that feeling down can be quite good for the writing.

I have a converted bedroom I made into an office and writing room. I do find it comfortable. My view is not scenic but I can watch the birds and squirrels outside. Stay positive. Work hard and maybe you will have that writing room someday!

Your view isn't bad. Definitely better than staring at an empty wall or the old window blinds. I sure hope I will get my writing room one day, or someone called it, a den!

I do not have a room like this but I'd settle for a writing corner.

I know how you feel. I would absolutely love an office. A room just for me where I can write. But sadly, right now, I have to sit at the dinning room table, or on the couch. Not always the best places to write.

@lovebuglena I can get that. Laptops can get hot when you have them on your lap and such.

@dodo19 Sometimes mine can get hot when I am using it on a dining room table. But the top of my dining room table is glass. Could that cause a laptop to get hot?

I sometimes love lying on the couch and being on my laptop. But for some reason when I use my laptop on my lap it gets pretty hot. On top and bottom of it there are some brown spots as if it's burned there.

When I had a mobile home in Florida I turn the bed room bathroom to a kind of office computer room ,there was a build in vanity in that Bathroom, work perfect for a computer desk. No bathtub in that bath room had land line and tv hook for old fashioned rabbit airs

Besides my lot, what kind of writing do you do? Are you hoping to be published one day...or have you been already? I wrote, for a bit, at writing.com...but it took too much of my attention away from the kids. Perhaps when they're grown I'll get back to writing the Great American Novel.
