My Mom's Encounter With a UFO

I live near an air force base, so there are many UFO sightings in my home area. Usually we chalk them up to the military testing out new secret aircraft. However, there have been a few instances that have left me wondering. One such incident that comes to mind didn't happen to me, but my mom when I was little. One night she got up to check on us kids and then went to the kitchen to get a drink of water, and she noticed through the window that there was a bright light shining down the street like the headlights from a semi-truck. She said it lit the entire street up, and there was a loud roar, like the sound of an engine, so she thought maybe the garbage collectors were out early. But nothing ever came down the street. And then the electricity started flickering -- not just in our house, but the porch lights of neighboring houses (which she could see out the window) were flickering too at the same time. She said even the hum of the refrigerator started flickering in this strange pattern. The roaring from outside got louder as whatever it was passed overhead, and then the flickering stopped. She was too afraid to go outside and see what was out there. I always got chills as a kid when my mom told us about this. I still get chills thinking about it. She still seems creeped out when she relays it to the rest of us, so I can tell she's not just telling some tall tale to scare us. Was it aliens? Or the military testing out some new aircraft? I guess we'll never know. **Thanks to @jstory07 for her post on aliens for inspiring this discussion:
An alien is someone or something that is from another planet. In ancient times lots of people said aliens came to earth. Over the centuries lots of people claim...

I would be so strange I would run right out to see what was going on. I bet it was a UFO.

I kind of wish she had run out and seen what it was! But she was afraid she would get abducted.

My dad told me a story about a UFO encounter his entire Boy Scout troop had when he was a teen, so this must have been back in the mid to late 50s. They were on a campout when they saw what appeared to be a craft landing out in the distance. About 40 boys, along with the Scoutmaster, ran through the woods to the place where the craft landed. They said it was a huge saucer-shaped craft. They were terrified and ran away. The next day, they went back to the spot and the ground was completely charred where the craft had been. They called authorities, who came in to investigate. They said they found high levels of radiation at the site. Apparently, there was a big story about it in the paper. Interestingly, the area where this happened is now practically right smack in the middle of suburbia, but if you go to the area where the sighting happened, there is nothing developed there. It is just an empty field, and in the spot where the supposed UFO landed, it is still a barren spot. I actually looked up the original newspaper article in the libraries archives, and sure enough there was a big story about the UFO that all those Scouts--including my dad--had seen! Still sends chills up and down my spine to this day!

I think I recall hearing about that, Jeff. Was it in Florida?

That is amazing! Do you remember what area that happened in? I'd love to look it up and see if I can find info online about it. I whole-heartedly believe that aliens exist and visit us.

@JamesHxstatic Yes, it was in Florida.I may not have given the correct number of Scouts, but my dad said his entire troop was on a camping trip. Not sure how many Scouts that would have been.

I'm a believer that there are other life forms out there and that these life forms have one way or another managed to interact with us without us knowing it.

I believe there are other life forms out there too. I encountered them once when I was 12.

It's surely creepy and we will never know if it was aliens or military testing.

I love whenever I hear that I am not the only person who has experienced these things. There is a bigger agenda for humanity than just going to work and paying your bills. We are apart of something bigger, involving them.. but for whatever reason, we aren't allowed to know about it.

I agree. I believe there is more to this world, this universe, and we are not allowed to know about it.

@Mr_Anomaly Ditto. I have more that I want to post about, but I tend to post at night and don't really like thinking about that stuff then. Plus there's also the risk of having people on here think I'm crazy!

@Srbageldog I have yet to post about all of my alien experiences here on mylot. I've only posted about one. I keep thinking about it, but it's a heck of a lot to type, and then I'll start thinking about it all night and then have trouble sleeping

Weird. For me it would always be smething I would have to see to believe. But that sounds like a compelling case.

I think for most it is something you have to see to believe. And I have seen them, so I believe in them. But sometimes I think it's just the military testing out stuff.

You don't get people hiding in their houses here. They will run out to look what the heck is happening there. Too curious for our own good.

Maybe if my mom hadn't been alone she would have been braver and ran out to see what it was.

The universe is too big for us to be the only "intelligent" lifeforms that exist.

wow! I don't know if I am going to be scared or get amazed or whatever after reading this. But whatever it is, there must be really something going on in your neighborhood, like something not normal. UFO or the military, even the government might be involve... It's kind of creepy, but cool at the same time

Maybe that's why we see so many "UFOs" from the military, maybe they are investigating the actual UFOs that keep visiting.
