I don't know what was in the mind of the owner, exactly, but the domain name existed before he acquired it. It was originally a site for the sale of garden furniture and equipment. Some time in 2005 or 2006, the domain name was sold to the current owners who used it to start the site you see.
The word 'lot' describes a piece of land (which is why it was appropriate for a gardening site) but it can also describe one's destiny in life or a group of people with whom one associates. Perhaps that last meaning is the one which is most appropriate to this site.
