Seeking information on steam cleaners

Firstly, just in case you don’t want to read further, the photo has no relevance to the text. While we were at my son’s place in Ireland I used a steam cleaner to clean the motor-home as it had been left untended for six or eight months. I was very impressed with the job it did and now I’m thinking of getting one for myself. I don’t want an expensive model, just one to do general cleaning. So I’m wondering if any myLotters have a steam cleaner and what advice/information they might like to give me about them.

OT suggested a Bissell to me. We have a small steam cleaner, but the Bissell was one of the highest rated. I wonder if you can get it in Australia. We are getting two, one for here and one for Florida for the tile floors. Good luck!

Thanks for that info. Yes, it is available in Australia. Vince is looking at some while he is in Bunbury. I was really impressed with my son's.

@DianneN Thanks. Are you happy with it? In its cleaning power? I guess I'm talking steam cleaners in general. I've never had one.

I have a Bissell Little Green Steam cleaner. I use it on my carpets. I could have sold you one if I knew you needed it..I just sold a smaller steam cleaner [ to someone..however,,,I am sure it would cost a fortune to send it Australia! The only people who seem to be able to ship things cheaply here are the Chinese!

Chinese tools and appliances are cheap as chips here too. At first the quality was good - I'm talking about power tools - but lately the quality has dropped off a lot. Again, you get what you pay for.

That's probably what I'll be doing. It's amazing what's on YouTube. Vince came back from the shop with a model number he thought might suit and we watched it being demonstrated on YouTube. Normally I wouldn't have thought of doing that.

I do not have one, we have many wooden floors and a steam cleaner is not to be used with real wood.

@JudyEv I think that there are no problems for vinyl. The wife of the previous owner of our house used steam on the wooden floors, she made a mess. We needed a professional to treat the floor before moving in.

@LadyDuck I'll start in a dark corner first. But the instructions are given for the heat, etc for various surfaces.

Our 'wood' floors are actually vinyl strips so steam cleaner would be okay for me. And I'd like one for the kitchen and bathroom tiles, etc.

We have a Bissel carpet cleaner. It does well. Not really familiar with other brands.

We've found a Black and Decker that looks like it will suit us. Cleaning is my least favourite chore and anything that might make it a bit easier will be very welcome.

@teamfreak16 They are probably made in China now like everything else .The cheap Chinese tools were great when they first starting appearing in our stores but the quality on some of the items has dropped substantially.

@JudyEv - They've got a good reputation. My dad owned a lot of Black and Decker tools.

The only time I used a steam cleaner I borrowed it from a friend. I think they work really good.

We've seen a YouTube clip of a Black and Decker one in action so will probably go with that as it available nearby.
