One Ugly Horse at the National Horse Stud at Pompadour Chateau, France

While we were holidaying in France, we visited Pompadour Chateau. This is now the headquarters of the Haras National, which looks after France’s equestrian interests. We had already visited one of their other sites in St Lo in Normandy. We were able to wander through the chateau and view the various rooms which were furnished as they might have been in the late 1800s/early 1900s. There were a number of carriages on display and we were free to walk through the stables and view the horses that were there. It seems they have a number of displays and exhibitions there from time to time. Across the road is a race- and steeplechase course. For the photo I’ve chosen the head of a quite ugly horse. It is an albino so has blue eyes and pink skin. Some albinos have hazel or brown eyes. There was no notice to say what breed it might have been but it is one very ugly horse. I’m sure it has other saving graces.

@JudyEv Poor horse, I think that animals are never as ugly as some humans.

@LadyDuck I agree with you on that point. Here is an ugly pig - and his young master seems to be taking on the pig's persona.

I think I have been to this place. Poor albino horse will never be confused with Phar Lap.

If his bottom lip dropped any lower, he'd fall over it!

I expect if he were awake and alert he would look prettier - not many humans look good when they're asleep with their mouths open. I know his mouth isn't open, but you know what i mean

Our old draught horse would hang her bottom lip like that and I always liked to flip it with my finger.

I am sure it is a very nice horse. I wonder if it has to be protected from the rays of the sun?

The UV index never seems to get very high in the northern hemisphere. In Australia, it would need sunscreen or protection of some sort.

Oh dear. lol. That braided bang doesn't do much for the poor horse's appearance. And he looks like he needs a bath.

The braid is a bit ordinary and just tied with black tape, It doesn't do much to improve him.

Poor fella, he looks sad and he looks a bit old. I bet when he is out in the sun he gets sunburn. I feel bad for him.

It has a cute braid though. If I search for albino horse eyes, I see tons of blue eyes. So the eyes of this horse were pink? How pink? Full pink, pink iris or what?

I've edited my post. I should have said blue eyes although some albinos have brown or hazel eyes. I'm glad you mentioned it.

@JudyEv I just love horses as I grew up with pit ponies in the fields around us that were there just then. A lot of old coal mines underneath the houses.
