when my mother went to my aunt and uncle's house, i sent a pack of ube yam cake bar and a pack of mango-flavored mochi. ube is purple yam and i thought this cake bar would go well with coffee. mochi is a chewy ball made of sticky/glutinous rice with mango-flavored filling, which they could have as dessert. i try to stick to fruit or native flavors when giving them food as gift because they're not into chocolates, cakes, and sweets anymore. i texted my aunt to ask if she liked them. if they did, i'll buy them also for my other aunt. i also wanted to know if they were easy to chew because i know they all have dentures. she had no problems, but my uncle's tummy did not seem to agree with the mochi. i've forgotten that his digestive system has become sensitive now.

I planted sweet potatoes this summer for the first time. Apparently you can't pick them until first frost. Soon I will.

@hereandthere I will have to take a picture of them for you. It's now pretty darn cold and we are going to pick them soon. So I will get out there and get a pic so you can see. The sweet potates are popping out of the ground. Not sure there is much life left in the plant. So there is still green in the plant but not for long.

Here I can get mochi with mango ice cream inside. Ube - I know I've had the cakes before . . . I remember so well the purple color! For my dad, I have to think of his teeth (or lack of it) now - and he sure can't handle as many foods as he used to too.

Both sound so tasty. It is not easy to always figure out desserts and sweets for Aunts and Uncles, mine are diabetic, so I have to be careful what I make when they come for lunch.

we will be meeting them all this week so i'll ask him what food to avoid next time. i remember my other aunt is a picky eater, so i'll have to ask her also her likes and dislikes.

it's a local brand called regent, but they also have a pack or assorted flavors and a pack of ube only. i myself haven't tasted it yet, but i wanted to give them something soft and easy to chew.

Purple Yam ice cream. I miss it so much. The asian stores here only have powdered Ube. The plant is illegal in western countries for being invasive so its sold in Powdered form.

I have a niece who seems to like mochi, the green tea flavor or whatever it is called. She asked me to try one before and I thought it was a bit sweeter than I would normally like. Perhaps the mochis are supposed to be served with hot tea?
