Fresh Bread From a Vending Machine

Leave it to the creative French to have a vending machine that sells baguettes. As you know that long bread is well thought of in France and by now also sold in many other countries. Of course nothing can beat a real genuine French baked baguette. The baguette selling vending machine was the creative idea of Jean-Louis Hecht who installed the very first 24 hour automated baguette machine in Paris. This idea came during the holiday period in August when lots of the boulangers or bread makers close-up their shops. Hecht has only installed two machines. One stands right next to his baker’s shop in Paris and the second one in the town of Hombourg-Haut which is close to the German border. Before their put into the machine the baguettes are partially baked and when ordered from the machine the bread comes out crisp and steaming. This all happened back in 2011 and in 2016 a baguette vending machine made its way across the ocean all the way to San Francisco, California and was installed there. The two locations of the machine are The Myriad market and Stonestown Galleria. Altogether there are now 50 locations of these machines with another 10 across Europe. I don't think we have this in Latvia but I will look into it. Being in the suburbs I don't get into the city too often. Wouldn’t you like to get fresh baked bread from a vending machine?

Definitely no, I never buy bread in shops having only a final baking point. It can be adopted by a few supermarkets offering this kind of low quality bread though.

I am not sure how it would taste. That is very interesting baguette from a vending machine. What will they think of next?

I thought we saw these in France but maybe it was a bit different. You could certainly buy bread from a vending machine.

I guess that if you don't want to go to a store for bread it would be a good option. This definitely wouldn't do well here.

I would love it - especially if the bread is wholewheat or bran.
