Hiding from horror shows

I’ve been chatting with @MarymargII about watching horror movies. I am not into horror movies at all but I know a lot of people are. My myLot friend said she mostly watches on her own and has a big cushion that she can hide behind if the suspense gets too much. Occasionally it seems she has to leave the room so now I’ve asked if she stays within earshot. Our son, aged about four, used to love Dr Who and wouldn’t miss an episode if he could help it. Most of the show he’d spend standing behind the couch peeping round the corner ready to pull his head in if it got to scary. Do you like horror movies and do you take defensive action if it all gets a bit much? The photo is of a wreath flower, one of Australia's wildflowers.

I can't imagine anything worse! Isn't it great that we are all different?

Yes, I like them. I have a few on queue at Netflix that I will be watching. Last night I was watching Dateline and 48 Hours though..I figured I had enough dark stories, so I watched Frankie and Grace instead. It's kind of a silly show..but it can be funny.

I like mystery and crime movies a lot more than horror movies. Horror movies are often gore and I dislike to see disgusting scene where there is a lot of blood.

That is my feeling. I don't like way out violence either. I don't find either entertaining.

@JudyEv I do not think it's entertaining at all and it gives morbid ideas to the psychopaths.

My son when he was about 6, did the same as yours whenever he watched Doctor Who (stayed behind the sofa, ready to duck & hide his face!). He became a genuine fan later by the time he reached 10. That wildflower natural arrangement is really strange.

My son still likes Dr Who. The wreath flower is well named isn't it? It's very pretty.

@JudyEv Made me think of a kind of fungi growing on lawns, always makes the lawn looks like the fairies have visited the place and leaving behind some fairy rings here and there.

When I was very young I use to cover my face with my palm and peep between my fingers ready to close when it becomes unbearable, no amount of horror movies can scare me nowbut I still love watching from time to time.

It's funny how we think peeping between our fingers will keep us safe!

I don't like them. I've seen a couple, and for those, if the tension was too much, I would squeeze my eyes shut.

We watch the news and perhaps the current affairs show after and that's about it although now Doc Martin has started again we're watching that now.

Most just seem silly. Or I just don't know how to find a frightening one.

@JudyEv I am the same. I like Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman and Sabdra Bullick. That is my kind of Halloween show. Shows like Criminal Mind that deal with crimes that are actually happening out there; I can get a creepy feeling from them.

I mostly find horror movies funny for some reason. Especially the ones from the 80's.

I'm sure the effects would be more realistic now. I don't think I'd find them funny.
