Memories of the "Penny Slots"

United Kingdom

I was stuck in traffic at the weekend and as I looked out of the window I saw that we were outside an amusement arcade. I have not been in one of those since I was a child. Right by the door was a favourite game of mine ....The Penny Slots.... This is a game where you put a coin in the top of the machine and it falls down to the bottom where a shelf keeps moving backwards and forwards...as it moves so do the coins....the coins get pushed along the shelf til they fall off....when they fall off the person gets to keep them. There is a version of this on our television screens at the moment called Tipping Point. Although in my day it was 1p and 2p coins that were put into the machine I daresay it is higher values these days. One of the main reasons that I fondly remember this game is that it was a favourite of my lovely Nan....not a gambler at all but she enjoyed having a bag of pennies and she usually did very well from these machines. Being stuck in traffic was a pain but it brought back some lovely memories .

I know these penny slots from my stay in Brighton many years ago. They seem to belong to Great Britain.
