My backyard harvest.

I went to my old house in Antipolo yesterday. To clean. I hired someone to cut the overgrown grass and trim the trees. It was a long, hot day. I checked on my collection of books, musing. It had been in my Bucket List, for so long a time now, to put up a Library/Cafe in my old dwelling. It was also my nursery school over a decade ago. I couldn't part with it, not with a small sum buyers offer. Thus, my periodic sojourn. At the end of the day, my hired help gave me twigs of malunggay and oregano leaves. Wow. My backyard grows healthy herbs and spices. I do have kamias and guava, siling labuyo , calamansi, pandan and ponkan. Ha ha. The last one is actually a citrus fruit. Here's my oregano and malunggay, with a piece of ginger, also homegrown.

Organic. Yes. And right where my house is located, the air is fresh and clean. One can hear the birds chirping. And a host of butterflies and bugs fly all around. Beside my house, there are banana plants, and other vine vegetables. But those are not mine.

@toniganzon A very interesting hobby. I pass the time also checking on my succulents. Not really an extensive garden with all herbs and spices, just a few this and that. But now, your idea is a proposition for me. I might take the challenge of growing a real organic garden.

@eileenleyva That's cool you an have oregano, too. I bought them from supermarket. A little dry oregano costs some money already.

@youless Oregano grows by stem cutting. Plant it beside a wall, or a pot, where it can as much sun. Before you know it, you can have as many leaves for every day rice cooking. Good for prevention of respiratory ailments.

My friends and I have jungle like gardens. Not the typical row lots where you have specific plants in a rectangular plot. We plant according to the needs of the plant. Lemon grass needs sunshine. Oregano, too. The pandan grows everywhere.

Don't you love having your own herbs? I don't have as many as usual this year, but I do have borage, lemon balm, rosemary, catmint, sage and oregano, if the frost didn't kill it last night. I'll find out if the oregano is still OK when warmer nights arrive. I hope to get some basil and parsley planted in spring.

Oh, I do. In fact, I have bought sacks of soil for herbs. I would like to separate the herbs from my flowering garden. You must have a good herb garden. I do not know what a borage is, nor the catmint, but the basil and sage, I think these are available in the local grocery. py 5t The weather could be difficult really. Glad it does not deter your from your gardening.

Oh. That is sad. All those mentioned are actually in every home here in the Philippines. Urban gardening includes the plants and herbs we usually use for cooking. Many of the old folks I know take gardening as a pastime. Now, even young people tend their own gardens. Perhaps you can begin your own.

@Kandae11 That is a home blessed with just about the only fruits I love to eat. WOW. My guyabano and avocado didn't make it, but I planted new ones. What about guava? I don't know what June plum is, and cherries are imported. But wow, again, I am envious. I love coconut juice, especially on a warm day.

I had tons of malunggay / moringa last week but I was so lazy harvesting them, days went by it got infested. They had to be cut off and thrown to trash. but since it's a tree it will start growing again. Now, I'm holding on to my new okra that I've planted weeks ago. Because this seeds were from Cambodia and brother gave it to me. I could see the difference from the local and this one because it had purple colors on it. I tried to grow lettuce but my soil sucks with infestation...congratulations for you growing tons of veggies.
