So, recently - I came into a bit of extra money. Nothing huge mind you, but enough so that I was looking forward to splurging on myself a bit. What would I get? A massage? Dance classes? Some new clothing and make up? Dvds? Buying ahead for Christmas gifts? Those were all ideas. Well, no sooner than I got the money, sure enough my car needed repair. 2 things were wrong, but it was still drive-able and I had a hard time choosing if I should take it in. (The 2 things, incase anyone was curious - was a brake leak, and a the heater fan, making my car into a cold ride as we head into Minnesota in the winter.) I lucked out - it was nothing much wrong and both repairs didn't require any hugely expensive parts. .... but - as you might have guessed - the car repair took my extra money. So of course, initially I was tempted to feel upset. After all this meant no massage, no extra clothes, no extra dance classes.... etc... But then I made a realization. I had the extra money at just the right time. Car repair may not be the most fun thing to spend on, but the peace of mind of not having to worry if your car will run, or if your brakes will fail, or having your windows ice up because the heater wasn't working... driving without having to worry these things is priceless. And since I had extra money - this means that I didn't have to put the repairs on credit, or beg , borrow or steal. Just kidding about that last one. lol. So, I am vastly thankful - I didn't have to go further into debt to fix the car, and I have a safe ride now, that makes me very happy. Photo: Pixabay

I think you made the wise choice, no brakes and no heater in the winter is dangerous. Glad you got that fixed.

@FayeHazel Cars can kill, better a car that runs right than a new blouse.

So very true. It is a terrible feeling if you are unsure that you are able to get from point A to point B... this means so much, and I love my hot (temperature wise) car :-)

That's called Even Steven from an old Seinfeld episode. The money comes in and out it goes. At least you had your car repaired andcan put your mind at ease.

How often does that happen? Just when you have a bit of a windfall you also have an unexpected expense pop up for almost exactly that amount.

I know exactly what you mean. I won that $100 American Express gift card a few months ago and was so excited. Then, as life often does, something came up that I had to use it for. However, I quickly realized all I should be is thankful that I had it to back me up.

Oh so true. I remember that. Like @JudyEv was saying... this seems to be a "thing". I think the windfall is the blessing in advance of something difficult happening. But I know it would be nice to be able to spend on splurges now and again. I'm happy for you too, that you got some $ ahead just in time

You were able to repair your car and you got to dream for a while. We dont need money to dream.

You know, that is true. I wouldn't have thought to look at it that way. It doesn't cost a thing to dream....

Yes though extra money usually goes on bills or much needed repairs, at least it was a blessing at the time. Oh to be rich dear Faye

That's always the way with spare money. Best to take care of practical business before indulging in fun stuff.

Very true -- it is not as much fun but wiser to spend on practical items first. The peace of mind is a great relief anyway
