Learning to Swim--Day 4

Well, first off, today was a mildly pleasant one with temperatures in the 60s. Warm enough to wear a spring jacket and don't need any gloves. This is a rare surprise and probably one of the last one this season, before we turn the clocks back this weekend. For my 4th swimming lesson, I believe that I can check off the front stroke off my list, since we didn't work on it today. We've focused on my backstroke. Rachel had me using one of those swim noodles to lean back and kick my feet for my backstroke in the lap, back and forth. So I've worked on that for a little bit for the first fifteen minutes. I've managed to go halfway in my lap and perfected my breathing. Then I've worked on my elementary backstroke, first with my legs, then my arms, and then both. I've done it with the noodle and then without it. I've managed to do much better without the noodle and made it halfway through the lap without incident. Since I kept hitting close to the wall and the lane barries, I've moved over to the center lane. Then I've hit my stride with the elementary backstroke. She did ask me which one was my favorite we've done so far in the past three weeks (and four lessons.) I've done her the elementary backstroke, since I'm more confident on doing it. I can glide through the pool's lane without any problems. I assume we're moving forward next week with the butterfly, breast stroke and maybe the side crawl, since she didn't mention anything. But we're on for a full week. (I won't be able to do it a week from Friday, since that's when I have my writer's group meeting that morning and lunch in the afternoon. But I'll let her know a week from today.) Since I didn't do any practice laps yesterday, I'm going to do a full lap with the freestyle tomorrow morning and a full lap with the backstroke on Monday morning. This would help me get more comfortable and confident with both strokes, if those lanes are available for me to use for five minutes. What's your favorite swimming stroke?

I agree. It does look daunting for me to do. Maybe that's the last stroke I would learn, I hope.

It sounds like you are progressing very well. My father taught me to swim when I was very small and I've been a strong swimmer ever since. My favourite stroke is the front crawl.

Yes I am. It'll be a month next week! Cool! That's probably next for me to learn this month.

It sound like you are doing pretty good with swimming. I learned all this when I was a kid.

Awesome Keith. I did learn most of this when I was little, but I've been a bit rusty now.

My favorite swim stroke is the doggie paddle. Lol, I like the pool, but I am not a great swimmer.
