Guideline Violations?

When you're scrolling down through the responses and comments on a post, do you ever see a succession of comments from the same myLotter that are usually slight variations on the theme of "That's nice to know my friend" or "You are right my friend"? Do you respond or comment on such posts, or do you just follow the myLot Guidelines and tap "Report"? I know the Guidelines say you can also block such myLotters so you don't see their comments, but do you ever try that and find they've blocked you, so you can't block their non-value-add comments?
This is where you will find out what kinds of behavior are accepted and unaccepted on myLot. When in doubt, remember the Golden Rule!

If threy are the same responses that I've seen from them several times before I just ignore them. I certainly wouldn't block or report them.

Perhaps it annoys my sense of order, or I am getting a touch of OCD. Or something.

I sometimes see some generic responses. And I know what you mean. Most of the time I don't really pay attention to them. I also know there are trolls on every site.

@pgntwo Why would you worry about someone blocking you? I had that happen to me in the past. To me that means the person is not worth it.

@inertia4 Worry? No. Sad at the loss of an opportunity to explore a topic that the person has raised. I'm probably just being overly sensitive...

Annoying when you can't spice the thread up a bit because of that infernal Block the person has on you. Bleh.

Sometimes that's all that one can say... my friend. Those responses may not add anything to the discussion, but they ARE responses. We'll have to check with JJ if they count for anything.

@JolietJake And if they are comments to responses on their own posts...?
With the advent of the keyboard and the computer technology we hardly 'physically' write this days. It has been said that one's handwriting is unique to the...

@JolietJake They have me blocked, but I can still see his every comment on each response to his post. Annoyingly. And a lot of them are generic, if you ask me.

True, there are a few here who simply write a couple lines and for some reason they get a lot of responses @pgntwo

Some of the discussion topics from that person would actually lead to interesting commentary, but perhaps some people are mot interested in having any depth to their posts...

Are you saying they're putting multiple responses on the one discussion or just putting the same comment on many? I would mostly ignore them. If I noticed a lot on one discussion I might report them. So far I haven't blocked anyone - and now of course I'll probably find reason to.

@JudyEv Where's the value in that? Surely writing something that drives more activity is what helps keep the balance moving upwards (I'd've thought...)?

Their discussion, perhaps a dozen responses, most of which are commented on by the OP in that similar vein. Almost as if it's too much work to put in a meaningful comment in the context of the discussion topic.

@pgntwo The few I saw made me think the same way - an easy way to 'comment' without putting any effort into it .

I guess it takes all sorts. I think being unable to write a response because of a block on you is one if the things I occasionally find most frustrating.

Sometimes it's so obvious that they type those comments without even reading the discussion. I mostly don't respond to them. I don't really use the block feature, but I do report discussions that I know violate the guidelines.

That is to be encouraged. Reading the guidelines occasionally, just as an aide-memoire, can be useful. I prefer not to block also, and I think I have only used Block as a means of pruning the list of people who follow me.

@sueznewz2 Perhaps the lone smiley or emoji can be overlooked, a bit like repetition of the small words "the" or "as" in the Radio panel show "Just a Minute" is overlooked...

I doubt that such behavior will ever be stopped - I am guilty of the single emoji response myself at times. Usually only where a comment thread seems to have meandered to a close, I like to think.

The whole point of the site is to stimulate discussion (in my mind it is anyway!). Stepping down a list of responses and dropping in near-identical comments adds nothing. But then again, if I ruled the world...

@pgntwo There was one member (who I think has now gone) who built up over 100,000 items of activity iin a matter of months. I don't think I ever saw anything they posted that could be said to have any substance.

Sadly, I have occasionally done likewise, after dropping a comment into a conversation where I have seen such behaviour. In the odd case where I am blocked, it raises my ire, as I can do very little to guide things to an amicable conclusion. Bleh!

The 'my friend' member is getting on my nerves. He writes a comment of, say, two and a half lines and manages to cram in 'my friend' three times.
