This coming Monday is the start of the class but i feel too nervous, I always thinking of how will I start my teaching class, I am now 28 years old, I dream to be a teacher but I never get an education course in my college days, then suddenly my uncle invite me to the university he was teaching then i succeeded to get a job order as an research assistant for the university journal. Then it happen that the university needed a teaching for their computer department, I did not accept it at first it took one year before i decide to accept their offer because i know what is my weakness in front of many people, my hand never stop shaking in every time i am the speaker in a presentation or workshop. But because of my dream to be a teacher i try to challenge my self but I keep on thinking how will i start my first day of teaching, i dont want my student to get boring on my class or to afraid or angry in my way of teaching. Is there anyone have a experience like me? How do you start your first day of teaching?

@runnerx Yeahhh.....Carrying a water bottle along is more important than carrying a book with you....You know why?In case you forget something or get stuck while lecturing the class, your water bottle comes in handy.....Take a few gulps and in the meantime you can refresh your memory....LOL.....Just kidding.....Just be confident about yourself and please try to turn a deaf ear to the comments that the students pass......as it may cause alot of distraction......All the best

I am a teacher and from my own experience it is essential to build a rapport with your students and everything will be fine . The students too would be a little nervous about the new teacher ..

@kiran8 thank you mam, i am nervous of how my first day will work out what will the first impression of my students. Hoping that i can make them enjoy my class like how my teacher handle their classes. Well way back in my schools day i always sleep inside my classes or doing some unnecessary things when my teacher is boring and now that i will be teaching i am afraid to experience everything that i am doing before. It is my reason that it take years before i accept the offer of the school. I want to be a teacher but I am afraid to see my self in my student (I told it to the instructor who offer the position to me.) And they just laugh on me.

You should have a lesson plan that guides you how you start your class.

Thank to this, i message my friend about their old syllabus, so that i have the pattern and will know what are those topic that i need to adjust. Some of their graduating student consult me on their system but i often encounter the same question, then it gave me an idea of what i shall add to their old module.

I'm no teacher but I have tried speaking inside the classroom of college students. First, there's no harm in telling your students that its your first time. Try to be friendly with them but of course show your authority over the classroom. Maybe you can start with knowing each other, tell your story and let them tell them also. That would be nice to start your first class.

Welcome to mylot I understand how much nervous you may be feeling. It's not easy to face people and give a lecture when you are new. I am not a teacher but I remember when I used to be a student I used to ask so many questions from a new teacher so as to test her knowledge. So it's better to be prepared well before you go to classroom for a lecture so that you may be able to answer all the queries which anyone asks.

@sjvg1976 yes the were the same, my teacher(new hired) cried and called me on the teachers office then they replace her with much matured teacher but my punishment is i was task to study advanced and my exam is different from my classmate then i purposely failed the exam to be with my buddies and act like an idiot and i'm happy because we graduated without living everyone behind. Thank you for your great opinion and brief story that remind my old self.

I wish he can reach his dream mam, like i am. my only tip if he is not education graduate like me he must do something that he can be recognize by the school or make some volunteer or my way is by helping students on their project without asking any return. It may take years(like me) or in an instant depend on his skills. hmmm, I just excited to teach, lol.

Yes, I get your point here, but my teacher also hated me the most especially when i know the lesson i never listen and always play with my sit mate, i was called in the office of the principal once. Everything in my past back in my memory when i was told that i will be move to teaching position. I am nervous to see my past in my student.
