WHY white carpet?????????

I live in the country, by a lake, it's beautiful here and I don't want to live anywhere else. I accept that dirt will come in the house, especially when a person has either animals or children or both. I have animals as my children are grown and on their own. As I freely admit, I am not the world's greatest housekeeper. There are more important thing s to do than constantly clean house. Of course for me right now that's moot. I moved in with Bill on October 2nd after my home burned down. I went down to see what was left, then walked back up to Bill's. I was greeted at the door with Bill asking me to remove my shoes before walking on the carpet. I complied of course. But it prompted the question "Why, in the name of all that's Holy did you put in white carpet?". White shows every spot and speck of dirt! It's hard to keep clean when you're wearing it, let alone having it on your floor! Bill is constantly spot cleaning the carpet...or vacuuming it. It is wall to wall from the dining area through the hall and in the master bedroom. Turns out his grandson chose the carpet. I wonder if it was it was on sale at a heck of a good price because everyone else had enough sense not to install white carpet in a home in the country?

Oh no, no, no - no white carpeting for us! We never wear shoes in the house, but still I would never put white carpeting in here. My husband tells us his child recollections of his grandparent's house - they were rather wealthy with maids and cooks - and they had everything white - including the carpet. Of course none of the kids were allowed to run around or touch anything .

@BearArtistLady My husband's grandfather was a dentist . . . . I wonder if being in the medical field had anything to do with wanting "white". Remember how long ago all the doctors and nurses wore white?

You hit the nail right on the head! It was a house, not a home!!! You couldn't relax and be yourself, you had to be someone you weren't. Where was the joy you have with children?

Seems like a typical men's choice! I bet the carpet won't stay long. It will soon be so dirty and look so ugly that it must be replaced.

It's been in the place for six years! Bill is constantly cleaning spots. I plan a "dirt" colored carpet for my new place.

I do not really care for carpet of any kind, but extremely dark or light carpet is the pits.

Here at the lake we have carpet to either keep the place warmer in the winter or cooler in the summer. The carpet and padding makes wonderful insulation. I've decided on a dirt shade carpet so I'm not cleaning constantly. I'd rather have carpet and not need to swap or mop. Of course I grew up with wall to wall carpet most of the time. I do remember having wood and tile floors, we were constantly sweeping and mopping. At least with the carpet you vacuum and you're done.

I am sorry your house burned down . I do agree, why put in a white carpet! White shows so much dirt.

Thank you for your condolences. I am slowly recovering from the shock. You're right. Why put in a white carpet? One thing for certain is you can't relax with a white carpet throughout the house! I brought Petey in and every few minutes Bill was asking "where's Petey?"

Oh white carpet and upholstery is a no-no for me too. I have enough trouble keeping the dust away from cabinets and shelves...not ready for the extra work to keep the white stuff clean too.

I've been living in Bill's house with the white carpet for 6 weeks now. It seems like the place is cooler with white carpet. It also needs spot cleaning with an extra person living in the place. Definitely NO light colored carpet in my new home!!!

I would never install white wall to wall carpet - but I had a large white shaggy rug which I really liked.

I had a cream colored fake fur throw rug that I loved. It was easy to clean because I would just throw it in the washer and hang it up to dry. But for me white is out of the question! Even a light colored sofa or chairs...especially when you have critters like I do. They're family to me and I don't throw them off the furniture or banish them from the house for dirty paws or because they shed worse than I do!
