Stomach flu is no fun!

United States
November 4, 2017 11:47pm CST
I don't know what I eaten, but I think I may have come down with the stomach flu. It's been going on all day! So far, I've been drinking lots of fluids (water and ginger tea primarily. I'm not a fan of electrolytes). For dinner, I had Vietnamese Noodles (pho) and I have a pillow on my tummy which is now warm making my tummy feel better. What are your home remedies for the stomach flu? Any suggestions?

When I have stomach flu I avoid eating and I drink warm tea, or warm water with honey and lemon.

I did not have an appetite but I had a little bit of Vietnamese noodles (pho) with lots of lemon squeezed in. I also had warm ginger tea. I should have squeezed some lemon and added honey (next time).

Oh Michelle, so sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. Stomach illnesses are the worst, especially if you are throwing up. I hope you get better soon. On the bright side, a stomach virus usually passes pretty quickly, unlike a nasty head cold or flu which can persist for 7-10 days or more. I usually load up on ginger when my stomach hurts, and I'll drink lots of ginger all (the real stuff, not the artificial soda kind), or I'll drink hot tea with honey and lemon.

It's okay. I am feeling much better now. Oh yes, I gotten food poisoning before and that was NOT FUN! I was throwing up every second and couldn't keep anything down. But this time not throwing up (thankfully) and I can still eat just, not very appetizing. I didn't have any real ginger! I had ginger tea. Next time I will add lemon and honey. Thank you for the pointers..

@infatuatedbby I am glad to hear that you are feeling better, and I'm also glad to hear that you didn't throw up. I don't like my poor Michelle being sick! And I must have had sympathy pains, because I've felt sick to my stomach all day today.

I am sorry to hear that. We had a medicine here and it really works well. But perhaps it is not sold in your side. So I think it is better to see a doctor.

@infatuatedbby If so, eat less or try to eat something that is easy to digest, such as the congee, noodles and so on. Keep yourself warm when you go out.

Usually stomach flu doctor says let our body fight it on our own. I went before when I had it worse. I am not throwing up so that's fine.

I haven't had that in years. Don't recall what I did for it. Lots of TLC. Alka Seltzer is my favorite thing when I have tummy problems.

Oh no - well hope you feel better soon! The Vietnamese mom that I know is totally into lemongrass right now - she says it's supposed to be an overall healthy ingredient. She says she boils a fresh lemon grass [stalk?] and drinks the cooled down water like tea. I was just reading that it does help with stomach issues - though I'm not sure about the stomach flu specifically.

@infatuatedbby Hope your tummy is better today! I forgot to add she adds some honey with that lemongrass tea. Ohhhh - I'll bet that's good with fish . . . I've only started cooking with lemongrass just earlier in the year - I love it!

@infatuatedbby You must be well by now, but dry toast doesn't upset the stomach when you are hungry. Of course, you need to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

@JustBhem Oh really? No , not here unless its really bad. I had food poisoning before and threw up every second, they told me to drink lots of liquid & rest and let your body fight it. No meds will help.

is stomach flu means diarrhea and vomiting? I did had that symptoms last few months ago. Had to vomit whatever stuff I ate out. Boil porridge with lots of water, drink the porridge liquid, eat plain porridge for 3 days, nothing else. Drink lots of water, lay down almost the whole day, use Tiger balm to rub tummy, helps to soothe the pain. Rest is what you need. Ginger juice didn't help me at all.

I did not vomit. But stomach flu could be both or one. Yes, it is important to drink lots of fluids and definitely eat light! When I had the stomach flu/food poisoning it was worse!

@infatuatedbby Lemon or any sour fruits/drinks make my stomach problems worst. I drink ginger tea with lemon for colds/cough but not for stomach flu. I drink a cup of ginger tea without lemon when I have stomachache due to menstruation only. Excessive amount of ginger can cause stomach problems too that's why it is not advisable for pregnant women. Eating 1-2 BANANA a day is the best cure.
No, I'm not going crazy but I would like to talk about BANANAS-- that luscious tropical fruit that many foreigners crave to savor. I like to cook and eat banana chips. Delicious but quite hard to prepare. You need to peel raw bananas and mind you, they
