1910 Beauty Contest Winners

These young women won a local beauty contest in Bowling Green, Kentucky back in 1910. As a result, they got a very nice article in the anniversary issue of the local newspaper. The heading indicates that they were chosen by "a popular vote of our subscribers." I suppose that means that they did not have to show any talent or parade around in evening gowns of the time. These "four maids and one matron" must have been the talk of the town after this issue of the newspaper was printed. Anne found this clipping in some old family papers and has no idea of any of the winners were relatives. The only beauty contest I ever won was in a Monopoly game.

I would never enter a beauty contest but it's amazing to see how different women looked then compared to now.

I wonder what it is that gets women to enter? Their mothers? I suppose they start young with those pageants.

To won a Monopoly game is a great achievement James. My cousin won a beauty contest back in 1970. I have always been too shy to enter a contest.

I never knew anyone who won a beauty contest but those gals certainly look much different than what we're used to seeing these days

Interesting. They are all very charming, however I notice not a scrap of make up, but their hairstyle seem more elaborate than today

@JamesHxstatic - sometimes I think it changes based on how much product it can sell. I also found myself wondering how the ladies would look if they were made up

That is interesting. Love the look on those ladies faces. Didn't anyone smile in those days? Miss America pageant started way back in 1921. Take a look at this interesting link.

Smiles must not have been in vogue for photos back then. That Miss America montage is great showing how styles of bathing suits and hair have changed.

Funny how the styles of the day seem to make them resemble each other.

It is odd that no smiles are shown. I can imagine the gossip that went around town.
