Casting Couch

Photo credit goes to google images. Once, a long time ago, I had wanted to be a television newscaster. It was a dream. I pursued Communication Arts in college. Newscast is televised nationwide. I could reach a lot of people. I could make a difference. I applied in one of the networks then. I was one of the hundreds of aspirants hoping to get screened. I saw a few schoolmates waiting, too. My hopes decreased. My bravado diminished. What could my chances be? The hall grew thinner. And colder. I was one amongst the last. Courage almost departed me when I got called. I was given a script to read. I did. I glanced at the tester after a few lines. He was listening. Right at once, he looked at me. Sighed. Stood up. Approached me. Gave me his number. Told me to call him up. And that was it. I did not call, of course. I got the call, from the station. So I went. Another try. When I got to the lobby, an actor/comedian saw me. He smiled. And made my way towards me. He asked in the vernacular: What could a little thing like me be doing there? And put his hand around my shoulders. I dove, escaping the huge arm. Dashed to the door and never came back. That idiom "casting couch" must be deleted. Completely.

Tsk, it is still a tradition these days. Too bad for few women who desperately wanted the job and bite the bullet.

Sadly, women are still taken as objects of carnal desires, Yes, It has been an age old dilemma. The reason why I deeply respect gentle men.

Is this part of your right now in magna carta or VAWC, maybe it is just like the case of catcalling.

@ilocosboy Oh, am not privy to the magna carta for women. I am sorry. Catcalling, I have not heard of any problem about that in Metro Manila. It was in the Paris news a week ago, I believe. It is doubly difficult to be a woman, I suppose. It has been a man's world. But hey, I breezed through it. Unfortunately, for one who escaped, a thousand more got trapped. Many, fatally. So I call upon the men to act like men must be and not beasts they seem to be.

That's a great dream. You will be popular all over the country. Maybe you should keep on trying

Dream long in the past. I pursued a nobler profession. Education. I have imparted to my students what they need in life. I hope. Ha ha.

@averygirl72 Fulfilling in the sense that you see that sense of wonder, when you explain to the students the lessons. They go Ahhhh. Frustrating because money-wise, you don't get as rich. Sigh. Ha ha.

What was the purpose of him asking you to call him up? Was the usual way of a possible follow-up interview? Weird to me.

It was weird. It wasn't a personal thing. Oooops, I forgot to mention that he wrote his number on a piece of paper. If it was a calling card, it would have been all right. I don't know really. It just felt creepy.
